Looking for trippy music to listen to
 

I like Crystal Method, Massive Attack, Chemical Brothers and Aphex Twin and they have a lot of songs that are great when you play them through the headphones.

Anyone have any suggestions?

If not, Hawkwind has been in rotation a lot lately.

You might try:

Bertine Zetlitz - Norwegian artist who does varied styles of pop. Since you said trippy music, try her debut "Morbid Latenight Show" and her second album, "Beautiful So Far". The first one is vary loungey while the latter is more electronic.

Goldfrapp - Try their debut "Felt Mountain". It's more downtempo than their later albums which are equally good but not trippy.

Kate Bush - Try "The Dreaming". Insane is the only way I can describe this album. while not trippy so much, it does have certain songs which easily fit in your requirement.

Sara Berg - another Norwegian artist. Her stuff is hard to find. Try searching for her album "When I Was A Young Child I Used To Feel Pleasure From Playing With Others".

St. Etienne - while they do club music, they also do downtempo lounge and electronic music. Also try finding Sarah Cracknell's solo album. She recently teamed up with DJ Mark Brown to create "The Journey Continues" using an a classical or opera song used in a bank commercial in the UK.

Moloko - this group will definitely fit what you're looking for. Try their first two albums "Do You Like My Tight Sweater?" and "I Am Not A Doctor'. The singer Roisin Murphy, went solo and released her debut Ruby Blue (you might have heard some songs used in Grey's Anatomy) which combine electronic music with some other stuff. Her sophmore album "Overpowered" is more mainstream though but I think it's a better collection.

Siobhan Donaghy - former member of UK group Sugababes has her second album 'Ghosts" which has some tracks you might like. The album is guitar and electronic driven.

Tori Amos - try her the first half of her double album To Venus And Back.

Oh man, I don't even know where to start. Mostly because a large part of my listening is done under the influence, and I simply can't recall.

Incidentally, right now I'm listening to a track by Dengue Fever called One Thousand Tears of a Tarantula or some nonsense. It's pretty awesome and rather intensely "trippy".

DJ Shadow. Though not so much his new album. Look for Entroducing... and The Private Press. I think, based on your taste, you would also like Basement Jaxx, Fatboy Slim, The Avalanches, and Rokysopp (just to name a few).

You could do worse than giving Morcheeba a listen. Their album "Who Can You Trust" would always sate my appetite for a late night chill :)

Portishead's "Dummy" may be worth a listen too.

Way back when I was in college I had a friend (lets call him Cheech) who had an amazing stereo system. It had the biggest LED display graphic equalizer I've ever seen. This was a very high end analog system. When we were "in the mood" he would play Alphaville's "Forever Young" album. No other album made the equalizer lights dance like that album. Mezmorizing. I don't know if you'd be into it - it's 80's New Wave - but if you can find it cheep it might be worth it.

Maybe earlier KC, but I'm not sure I classify Beat or Three of a Perfect Pair as trippy. I'd lean more towards Red, Lizard or Court of the Crimson King.

Hive: Devious Methods. Great trippy jungle-ish album with some evil beats and cool samples from flicks like The Black Hole.

Normally, I listen to a lot of electronic music stuff that I mentioned in my first post.

The Crystal Method has some of the best music that you can play in the headphones. Great beats and really cool samples. That's the genre I am most into. I do like trance but not as much as I used to.
