It all depends on what you mean by trippy, but I'd recommend:

Fantomas - Delerium Cordia
if you could film a nightmare, this would be the score

M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts
waves and waves of shoegazery electronica

Miles Davis - In a Silent Way
ultra-trippy jazz from the master

I would more recommend 'Wider Angle Special Edition', the second live disc in that re-release is incredible.

No mention of 'Deep Dish'?

'Fila Brazillia' is awesome, Particularly 'The Garden Compilation' and 'Black Market Gardening'.

If you like breakbeat stuff like Crystal Method you should check them both out.

If by 'trippy' you mean literally under the influence, the old 'This Mortal Coil' CD 'Filagree & Shadow' is cool. That's heavy when you're really out there.

Traffic made some awesome stuff, like 'John Barleycorn Must Die' or 'When The Eagle Flies', etc.

'VAST', their first release - 'Visual Audio Sensory Theatre' is pretty cool stuff.

'The Verve' didn't rule the a good part of the 90's for nothing. Their 'Single B Sides' release is incredible. 'Urban Hymns' is cool too.

There's a few.

The Crystal Method - Divided By Night just came out Tuesday. Pretty good so far.

I think the main thing for the music to be 'trippy' is when there are lot of pans from left to right, sounds appear to be coming inside your head, stuff like that.

I've listened to about half of Divided by Night so far. I wish they would stop having guest stars on their songs. I much prefer it when they just do their thing, skipping the rapping overtones.

Not recommended at all.

An old thread i know, but I had to say that the Tron Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk is going to be my all time favorite. To me, this is what made the movie and damn it's great trippy music too. Great with headphones that's for damn sure and great when loud with all it's great bass heavy tracks.

Would recommend this to anyone. Easily my favorite of the year.

I greatly enjoy their "Drown in the Now" single and remixes. Also check out Pitch Black's "Ape To Angel" and Junkie XL "Radio JXL", and Phutureprimitive's "Sub Conscious".

Anyone care to mention Sigur Ros? Loved Takk and Hvarf / Heim (Dig).

I loved Takk as well, but Agaetis Byrjun is my favorite.

Revolution 9 by The Beatles is pretty trippy, better with high end head phones. Infected Mushroom has some good songs too.
