Heard them both... Nothing special I'm afraid.

I'm not really interested in their current stuff, but the live disc that came with the August &Everything After Deluxe Edition is a motherfucker.

They've kinda gone off the rails. "Hard Candy" didn't do much for myself overall, and the two new tracks seem overly generic. I loved their debut and "This Desert Life", and liked "Counting the Satellites". I was hoping the long delay would've resulted in something more...substantial. We'll see.

You should always check my "Quasi-Comprehensive Release List" to see if there is already a preexisting thread for a new or upcoming release. In this case, there is one here: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=515170.

Old thread closed in favour of this one which contains more info from the outset. Maybe it should form the reference point for 2008 Counting Crows album info and be shown as such in the QCRL?

1492 is awful. It doesn't remotely sound like what I expect from CC. It doesn't even sound like CC trying to "progress their sound", but rather a different band all together.

WIDM isn't much better in my opinion. It sounds more CC like, but that isn't saying much. As somebody said above it isn't anything special and certainly doesn't inspire me to have a second listen.

I wouldn't say that I thought 1492 was awful, but it just doesn't have a great hook to it.

When I Dream of Michelangelo is a solid effort, kind of reminding me of something that they would have done in the "Recovering the Satellites" days, which was my favorite of their albums.

I'll definitely buy the album when it comes out, and I'll give it a fair shot. I just hope 1492 isn't their idea of the album's crown jewel.

I didn't know Counting Crows had a new album coming out. I just saw them perform on "The View" this morning and I loved their new song! I am glad they are coming back after 5 yrs!

I listened to clips of the new album. The first half is upbeat and sounds pretty good. The second half is kinda boring.

i still haven't gotten around to listening to the new album but i have a bootleg version of 1492 from 7-8 years ago. so although it's on a new album it's not exactly a new song. hope the rest of the songs are ones they've been kicking around for years and decided, hey let's throw all these on a record and release it as new.
