MUSE: What CD's to get?
One my friends left his copy of Black Holes & Revelations at my place this last weekend and I am really digging it. Any recommendations of some of their other stuff that's worth picking up?
|
All of them ;)
But if I had to choose for you, I would buy these: Absolution - this is the album that hooked me. Great songs on here. Origin of Symmetry - this is their 2nd album. Hard songs, very good. Others ones of interest: Showbiz - their first album. While good, not as great as Absolution and Origin of Symmetry. Hullaboo - a live album and b-sides cut. Some good b-sides. Black Holes and Revelations - if you don't have this one, get it. It's a good cd, not as great as Absolution and origin though. They are one of my favorite bands. I've seen them on tour 3 times. |
I just started listening to Muse and I love Black Holes and Revelations.
|
Another vote for all of them.
|
great live band...it broke my heart that they had to open for my chemical romance on their recent US tour.
|
All of them!
|
Origin of the Symetry and then Black Holes, IMO. Black Holes was one of the best albums of 06, IMO.

Amazing show - I can't imagine any band wanting to go on after them! |
I was going to say all of them too, but a few others have beat me to it! They're an amazing band. You won't be disappointed in any of the albums that Pillowhead listed. Their B sides are better than most bands' regular output.

If you ask me, "Origin of Symmetry" has been their album peak so far - I thought "Absolution" just sounded like them trying to out-epic "OoS" [though there are some fantastic moments on it, I find it to be their weakest]. "Showbiz" is a commendable debut and well worth investigating, and "Black Holes" sounds a bit like a mesh of "Showbiz" and "Origin of Symmetry", though 'Supermassive Black Hole' is clearly the single they've been trying to make since they've started and is their finest song to date.
I agree that their b-sides are also equally strong, but good luck trying to track down the "Showbiz" singles - not all of the b-sides ended up on "Hullabaloo", and some of the singles command a pretty penny these days. Particularly the 7"s which all have exclusive tracks on em. |
I have Absolution, it's pretty good.

guess I'm in the minority I do like 'Showbiz' if not for the inclusion of my favourite song: 'Unintended' (the video is also amazing).

Well just ordered Absolution from Amazon.com just because of the Time is Running Out track, I have heard that one before and was trying to figure out what it was for some time now, Origin of Symmetry and Showbiz will probably be a order next week. So what's the deal with the Hullaboo CD? It was like 25 bucks on Amazon.

all Muse fans have to have 'Black Holes and Revelations' CD/DVD edition for the Glastonbury concert - it's an essential must own.

Yep. Also, Hullabaloo-Live at Zenith is also on DVD (UK-PAL or JPN-NTSC) and the Wembley concert is expected on DVD pretty soon. |

got into these guys a couple months ago after playing "Knights of Cydonia" on Guitar Hero 3. Great band.

Absolution (only)
|
If you have to get one, get Origin Of Symmetry. My personal favorite from the band.
If you have to get two, add in Absolution. I personally prefer the Hullabaloo Soundtrack over Showbiz. |
Whole cd's is quite entertaining.Just listen to it and enjoy.

Well I feel like a dope. I didn't know there was a full-length release between Showbiz and Absolution. I think I bought them both at the same time back when Absolution came out. Looks like Origin wasn't available domestically yet at that point.
Have it on order now - looking forward to it. |

Have it on order now - looking forward to it. It's sad to say, but here in the US, until Absolution came out and the single "Time Is Running Out" started to regenerate interest in the band, MUSE were pretty much perceived as a "one-hit wonder" (for "Muscle Museum") and a minor one at that. Either that, or people didn't even know they existed and had albums out before Absolution. For that matter, many people didn't even know they existed before Black Holes And Revelations. Don't know why they never caught on here before. |
Confused. Is this live concert from last August *only* part of a live CD? I'm only interested in the DVD. And a friend told me that it was being released separately. But I can't find any info of either domestically (here in the U.S.)

I haven't seen the DVD offered anywhere separately. They seem to be marketing it as a CD/DVD package. |

No US release date yet (which is why I'm going for the UK or Japan import). |
I have Absolution, Black Holes, and HAARP.
If I could only get one at a time, which of their other three CD's should be first on my list? Origin of Symmetry, Showbiz or Hullabaloo? |

definitely Origin of Symmetry...
'New Born' is perhaps the most spectacular, hauntingly beautiful yet rocking song I've ever heard. I could play that song on repeat for hours and never tire. Same with 'Plug in Baby' and 'Hysteria' (which is on Absolution.) I've become such a Muse fanatic these past several years, discovering, consuming (and appreciating) their back catalog as voraciously as possible. I'm convinced at this point that they are the greatest rock band alive. IMO, of course. |
