Flyleaf anyone?

In my opinion they are one of the best new rock/metal bands around. Their sound is unique and Lacey Mosley's voice is amazing. They really impressed me when I heard their song "Fully Alive" over the summer and I then picked up their CD and was amazed by songs such as "I'm So Sick," "Cassie," "All Around Me," and "There For You." I had noticed on MTV last night that they are this weeks "Band of the Week" and it seems they are really getting up there popularity wise.

Rypro 525 12-27-07 03:43 AM

Fan of theirs. I wouldn't really classify them as a metal band though. More hard rock then anything. Even though i they aren't really new, Within Temptation and Nightwish blow Flyleaf out of the water imo. You also might like In This Moment, but theres a lot more screaming though.
eh, since i'm board and have the time
within temptation

I like Flyleaf, but I wish they would put out some new material, because I'M SO SICK of the current crop of tracks.

mndtrp 12-27-07 11:49 AM

Flyleaf isn't bad. I look forward to see what they do when they become more comfortable. They seemed awfully lost on stage when I saw them.

Both Nightwish and Within Temptation have good music, but the vocals really turn me off. I'm not into the operatic singing, personally.

The Cow 12-27-07 03:58 PM

They seem mostly like a radio band that won't last. I thought their first album was pretty good.

They sounded horrible when I saw them live last summer, however.

That is funny. I really like operatic singing in a "rock and roll" context.

On topic, I enjoy flyleaf and hope they put out a new record sooner than later. I really like their cover of Something I can never have on the Underworld score.

A new CD is in production as we speak.

EDIT: The Chick or Chicks in Within Temptation are damn good looking.Though their voices in my opinon arent as good as Lacey Mosley's.

cactusoly 12-28-07 09:02 PM

They have been riding on this album forever. Their street team was promoting the album at Family Values this year, and I yelled to them "anyone who doesn't have the album by now is not a fan."

It bothers me that they rereleased the album again with all kinds of bonus features, basically punishing those who have supported them early on. (just like so many other bands)

RForte1189 12-29-07 10:54 PM

Meh, I liked it. It has 5 songs in acoustic which I like, except "I'm So Sick" it sounds like shes dying when she sung that song in acoustic. But other than that, I agree and I think its good that they are making a new CD.

Sorry, had to revive this thread just to state Tairrie B of My Ruin is and always will be the Queen of Metal.

Wasn't too big on Nightwish, it just seemed to upbeat/cheery for me given the musical genre they're trying to be a part of. Within Temptation though, I can't imagine how I've managed to go so long with never hearing of them. All I listen to is female vocals alt/goth/metal, and that one song at least was fantastic. Sort of an less-pop version of Evanescence.

You also might like Lacuna Coil if your not a fan of theirs already. The Within Temptation song is from their newest "the Heart of Everything". Here's the other big video from that album

And yes, this band was around many years before Evanesance. I mainly like that the music means something, and it doesn't feel like the lead singer with a backup band like Evanesance feels like to me imo.

I can at least say for Lacuna Coil that I've been a fan of theirs for years. And now that I've listened to the entire Heart of Everything album, extremely well done. I'll have to try and hunt down their other three albums. I'll toss in a couple names for this thread.

Lennon (Goes mainly as Lennon, aka Lennon Murphy when you search and get John Lennon.) Easily one of my top 3 musicians of all time.

Bit more on the goth-rock side, but Scarling (Same singer from Jack Off Jill, who's Clear Hearts Grey Flowers is the most amazing album. Ever.) is in the same vein and another favorite. Nada decent on YouTube, but from their site: http://www.scarling.com/av/index.html

More widely known, but I'll also toss them in. Kidneythieves, The Birthday Massacre, The Start and Drain STH.

Maxflier 01-24-08 08:19 AM

I love Flyleaf. I just hope their second CD is longer than the first.

Rypro 525 06-06-08 02:41 AM

Well to revive this thread, apparently earlier in the year their self titled went platinum selling over 1 million copies, much the displeasure of the snobs at blabbermouth
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/bla...wsitemID=92365

Also, does anyone else prefer the ep/video version of Breathe Today?
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9e4mMg2wpf8&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9e4mMg2wpf8&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

they also had to drop off the last few dates of the Seether co headlining tour due to Lacey losing her voice. If they start recording over the summer, would end of 08/early 09 sound reasonable release date for the new album?

Josh-da-man 06-06-08 04:49 AM

Being a shitty emo band alone would be enough for me to dislike Flyleaf.

But they're a shitty Christian emo band who play those vile Teen Mania/Battle Cry/Acquire the Fire shows, so I officially DESPISE them.

(And, Lacey, it pleases me to be the one to break it to you: that whole "Cassie" story is 100% bullshit.)

Tarantino 06-06-08 09:31 AM

I definitely wouldn't consider Flyleaf to be 'emo'. Sorry.

= J

mndtrp 06-06-08 07:47 PM

I wouldn't put them in the emo category either. To have a platinum album after one (?) cd, and at that age, would be a pretty cool thing.

looking fwd to the new CD. ..if only they'd let us know the tracklisting and whether there'll be a delux edition. The acoustic tracks on the first album were my favorites off the whole CD.

The tracklist/album cover has been revealed at their street team site and will be announced to the public on Monday. Memento Mori drops October 27.

I love Lennon's music - especialy the acoustic tracks because you can hear her voice better. She's got very strong vocals.
Kidneytheive really rock. Not too much into Free Dominquez solo albums... love her voice though.

The only Drain STH song I love is 20th Century Boy. I bought their second album but just coulden't really get into it. Diden't care for the girls vocals there.

Re: Flyleaf anyone?

I like the two new songs. I think I like Beautiful Bride better than the lead single, Again, as a matter of fact.

I also just got around to checking out some of the bands listed earlier in the thread. I don't know if I like any of them enough to pursue an entire album, but I did really like some of the singles. Within Temptation's What Have You Done and Howling, as well as Lacuna Coil's Spellbound are really good. The rest I felt kind of "eh" about, not great, not terrible, but I'm thankful for the recommendations because it gave me something to do for a while.

Back on topic, I'm looking forward to Memento Mori in a week and a half. From what I've heard of it so far, it sounds like something I'll like, and it reminded me to listed to their debut album, which I enjoy but just forgot about.

Looking forward to the new album as well. They were just in town here last week, but I was too sick to go.
