All Songs Considered has a Christmas special this week on their podcast, about 45 minutes of new Christmas songs. There's a brief introduction by Bob Boilen (formerly from All Things Considered), then the remainder is music. The bitrate is 128 kbps which is very good for a podcast.

Appears to be dead, you get some video from the website, and it won't let you download it through Itunes... That stinks.

That Coverville site looks pretty neat, thanks for mentioning it. I'll download that file the next time I at a high-speed computer (I'm on dialup at home).
Starman9000, which one are you having trouble with? I just tried both of them and both started to download just fine. Don't try to download through iTunes, just download them directly to your computer (right click --> save target as...) |

I tried the one that said a link to the podcast, it downloaded fine, but was a video file (MP4) about making a song in 24 hours or something. (Project Song: Georgie James) Looks like they just updated it early. I don't suppose there's anyplace to find the old ones? It's listed in Itunes, but doesn't download. |
The All Songs podcast is good enough to save. I haven't burned it to disc yet, so I still have it on my hard drive. I've uploaded it here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D68R2ICV
If that doesn't work I'll upload it elsewhere. |
Thanks a million DJLinus.

There will be a new Belle & Sebastian Christmas song available to download free on Christmas day. From their email:
Hi folks, We mentioned in our last news update that there was a Christmas song in the making, and as promised you can now listen to the track on the b&s website home page and on our Myspace page. As a special Christmas treat you'll also be able to download the track "Are You Coming Over For Christmas" for free on our Myspace page from midnight on Christmas eve until Midnight on Christmas night. http://www.myspace.com/thebandbelleandsebastian |

Another great podcast is the Annual Andy Cirzan Xmas Spectacular on Sound Opinions. I haven't listened to this year's yet, but I plan to tonight while I wrap presents. You can download it here: http://christmas.soundopinions.org/ (available until Jan. 2)
I've also uploaded my annual Christmas mix: http://jmblya.blogspot.com/2007/12/d...hightunes.html

Speaking of Sound Opinions, that's another show I listen to each week (download their podcast). Right now I'm in the middle of their "best of" 2007 episode.
And regarding All Songs Considered, you can download the holiday episode as well as other past episodes here: http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_...p?pod_id=22737 One of the episodes that I really liked was the Rilo Kiley concert from 9/27/07, and Jose Gonzalez was really good too (he's a Swedish singer, singing in English), 10/6/07. |
It didn't occur to me that Belle & Sebastian's "midnight to midnight" time frame would be on Scottish time, so when I went to download the song at 11 pm last night it was back to streaming only. Did anyone get the song?
