MADONNA: "Hard Candy" -April 2008 [was "Licorice"]

Madonna Names New Album 'Licorice'

Madonna has christened her final Warner Bros. studio album "Licorice," and will release the set in late April. The news was broken today (Dec. 6) on former Billboard editor Larry Flick's Sirius Satellite Radio show "OutQ."

On the broadcast, Flick also aired two songs from the album, "Candy Shop" and "The Beat Goes On" featuring Pharrell. Both cuts leaked online earlier this year.

Unconfirmed reports say Madonna previewed the album in recent days for Warner Bros. staff members in New York. Kanye West is said to guest on "The Beat Goes On," while an older unreleased tune, "The Devil Wouldn't Recognize You," appears in a new version.

As previously reported, following "Licorice" and a greatest hits collection, Madonna will record for Artist Nation, a new initiative launched by concert promoter Live Nation.

The 10-year deal encompasses all of Madonna's future music and music-related businesses, including the exploitation of the Madonna brand, new studio albums, touring, merchandising, fan clubs/Web sites, DVDs, music-related television and film projects and associated sponsorship agreements.

Another greatest hits collection is coming? Maybe they can get finally this one right, although it would have to be at least 2 discs, possibly even 3, to cover everything.

Label Denies Madonna Album Title Speculation

By REUTERS
Published: December 7, 2007
Filed at 1:33 p.m. ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Madonna's record label has denied reports that her new album will be called "Licorice" and will come out in late April.

Billboard.com reported that Sirius Satellite Radio host Larry Flick, a former Billboard editor, announced the title and release date on his "OutQ" show Thursday.

"Sirius does not know what they are talking about," Warner Bros, spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg said in an email to Reuters. "Wrong title. Release date wrong etc."

Flick reportedly aired two songs from the album, "Candy Shop" and "The Beat Goes On," both of which leaked online earlier this year.

The new album will be Madonna's last release of new material for Warner Bros. before she begins a wide-ranging 10-year deal with Artist Nation, a new initiative launched by concert promoter Live Nation. Warner Bros. will also release a hits collection.

The other current title rumor is 'Give It To Me'. Oddly, the 'Licorice' title showed up on some fan-made covers back in late summer/early fall or so. Not sure of the release time frame.

The style is supposed to be more 'urban' style, but more like Madonna's interpretation of it. Sort of like the way 'Confessions' was a disco album at its core.

Oh, and 'DaveWadding'?

The report I read at DrownedMadonna.com stated the title Madonna wants is 'Give It To Me'. I rather like that title. When I hear 'Licorice', I automatically think of black licorice, which I can't stand.

The title of this thread needs to be updated, as well as the official release date added. From www.madonna.com:

The title of Madonna's forthcoming album will be Hard Candy, EW.com has learned exclusively. The record, her last studio effort for Warner Bros., includes a track called "Candy Store." Madonna chose to stick with the sweet theme because "she loves candy," says her longtime rep Liz Rosenberg. "It's about the juxtaposition of tough and sweetness, or as Madonna so eloquently expressed 'I'm gonna kick your ass, but it's going to make you feel good.'" The album, which features Justin Timberlake on multiple tracks and production by Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, and Nate "Danja" Hills, will see a U.S. release on April 29. The first single, "Four Minutes," will be out at the end of March.

I can't wait!

No more Confessions or that Euro dance sound. I find it monotonous dance stuff. If only she could work with Shep and the guys from True Blue again but that's not likely. A little melody wouldn't hurt.

How would you know? It's not even out, yet.

EDIT: I've now heard it, and, I disagree with you. It's absolutely going to be HUGE! It's got what it needs to have to be a HUGE radio hit. On top of that, like Timberland's best work, it grabs you, and won't let you go. You just want to keep on hearing it, over and over. I didn't think I'd like it, and I find myself wanting to get my ASS up and shake it! It's different for Madonna, but, it works so well. Madonna, Justin Timberlake, and Timbaland really made a great track!

I've heard it and annoying DJs aside, I'm surprised by how quickly I came on board with it. And Timberlake at that?

Supposedly, this is as "urban" as the new album will get. I heard a low-quality snippet of "Give It 2 Me", and it sounded like a vintage Madonna anthem.

the song would be better if it was on Justin's album. But I think it's anticlimatic when Justin dominates the chorus of Madonna's song.

I can't believe that Janet's new stuff is seriously giving Madonna a run for her money, since Janet's been releasing crap all decade while Madonna's been putting out great albums back to back to back to back since ROL. Yet now Janet is putting the album out people have wanted for the past 10 years while Madonna's doing this. If Hard Candy is even half as good as Discipline, I'd be more than satisfied, but I have a feeling for the worst. I'd like 4 Minutes better if it was where it belongs, on a Justin Timberlake album where Madonna would be the "guest" that she really is on what is supposed to be HER single.

Keep in mind, I am someone who LIKED and defended American Life. But the rip I heard of the song was not to my liking. I am sure US radio will play it for Justin anyways.

Is that true? I haven't heard the latest single Feedback on the radio yet but I heard the song watching the video and thought it was pretty much like all other dance music. The last song I liked from Janet was "All for You."

I heard the latest low quality version of "Give It To Me", and I couldn't really tell anything from it, the quality is so bad. However, I've heard a high quality version of the entire "Candy Store" track, and I am really digging it! It's produced by Pharrell, and you can certainly hear his influence in it, however, it's Madonna through and through. It reminds me of something that could have been on Erotica. Anything that reminds me of Erotica gives me high hopes for this album.

You should reserve your judgement until you've heard the song, and the entire album, for that matter, in high quality, in the normal situation that you listen to music. At least do that.

well, there's nothing groundbreaking about Janet's new album, but it's a return to the old-school r&b/pop/dance that made her big to begin with after a few failed attempts to market her as a hip hop artist. Plus it's also her "cleanest" album since Rhythm Nation, with only the title track really being overtly sexual, since her last few albums have been downright pornographic, but without the talent that early Prince had. She's gaining back a lot of older fans who left years ago with this album from word of mouth.

nonetheless, I don't like the fact that Justin dominates Madonna's song. Madonna seemed to sing more on the song she did with Britney, and that was BRITNEY'S song.

Luckily, most of the boards I go to have fans who are constructive and realize Madonna doesn't always deficate gold (it's still a pretty agreed on idea on the two M boards I go to that the title track of AL was an embarassment). I like Justin Timberlake, I really do, but if I want to hear him dominate a song, I'll go for HIS album. I was hoping for something along the lines of "Maneater" or "Earth Intruders" in terms of a Timbaland production for a pop star, not a new Justin Timberlake single masked as a Madonna song featuring him.

I agree with Perez Hilton for once

4 Minutes To Save The World has finally surfaced and is making the rounds on all the Madge fansites.

Now, y'all know we worship Madonna, but…

- You can barely hear her singing.

- It's all about the beats. It overpowers the song.

- Those damn horns! Repeating on a loop!!! SO annoying!!!!!

- The melody is sacrified.

- And where is the chorus?

Sadly, the song sounds like something from one of Gwen Stefani's solo albums, right down to the "tick tock tick tock." Which is kinda funny, cuz we all know how majorly Gwen has been inspired by Madonna.

We're just not that into the song, unfortunately.

Maybe it will grow on us. We just prefer to love songs instantly.

Again, you haven't heard the song in HQ. People are listening to a radio rip, taken from a French radio station, with the DJ talking over bits of it. Of course you can barely hear her singing. You aren't listening to a quality version of the song. Of course the beats overpower the song. You aren't hearing the song the way it's meant to be heard. The same could be said about the horns, and the rest of the complaints. Wait until you hear the song from the CD, not taken from a low quality radio rip, at that. Seriously, I worry about people, sometimes.

Can't wait for a new Madonna album. As for the cover art, it's hard to believe she'll be 50 this year!
