Now they choose a guy in a cover band? Please.

of COURSE it's gonna work out. Didn't you see "Rock Star"? Marky Mark was the bomb in that, yo!

Last week I was browsing around music and stumble upon this video from the Ellen Show uploaded in youtube

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TWG6aN73rAo&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TWG6aN73rAo&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Got me curious and checked out more and saw this video

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/s7OysodcGLo&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/s7OysodcGLo&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Is this for real?

Rockbands now are going the same business ventures as I.T. (Information Technology) .. outsourcing its talents? (Joke)

So far this seems to be the best example of Talent Discovery from the internet.

Im a Steve Perry (Journey) fan but this sure hit me with an awe.... There is really something like this happens in life ei?

Though the story is not yet over, let's see if Journey's New Album coming out in June will be a hit (or a miss)?

Its just odd, having a new lead singer to re-record the Journey classic songs (in the upcoming disc1)..

Coral 03-30-08 04:49 PM

Artistically, this move is pretty cheesy.

Why do they need to regurgitate what they've already done? They can't do something new/fresh? It's bad enough that they do this, but to re-release a CD of this new singer singing Journey classics is embarrasing.

More proof that the music industry is in a shambles.

Don't a lot of artists outside or rock do this? I'm sure I've seen where some jazz artists occasionally revisit earlier work, re-record songs with different arrangements, etc.

And seriously, what do Journey have to say that hasn't already been said?

MANBREASTS 03-30-08 06:37 PM

I love the idea and can't wait to buy the cd at wallmart.

Now I wish Chicago would find a guy that sounds just like Peter Cetera.

Yep... Arnel is a complete bad ass!

Can't wait for the new CD.

I heard the Walmart exclusive contains 2 Cds and 1 DVD... All of which are under Arnel's voice. Very trusting approach by the band to their new discovery.

I cant wait how it will go this June when it hit the Walmart store shelves...

Mordred 03-31-08 01:21 PM

Rerecording is a cheesy move, but it makes financial sense. Don't think of it as re-recording for re-recordings sake, think of it as the best way to expose an audience to the disc with new material. It'd die on the vine otherwise, but now has a reasonable chance of getting people interested in the band again.

d2cheer 04-19-08 06:03 PM

I will admit they guy can sign, but why they don't bury the hatchet is beyond me... What was their problem anyway do they even remember????

K&AJones 04-19-08 07:46 PM

Well it had to do with a so-called "Hip" injury Steve said he got while hiking. There lies the dispute or claim. Docs said he needed hip replacement and after two years the rest of the band said enough and did the tour that was cancelled leaving out Steve. May think Steve 's vocal cords took a beating and he basically lost the ability to hit those high notes.

I'll cling to my Journey's GH two CD for now and wait and see on this new CD. One item of note though check out Gregg Rolie site . He has a tour and a album called "Root's bringing back the original Santana sound. When he, Dumbar on drums and a new Steve Perry came about ...now that was something.

Journey usually has good album covers.

Wasn't Faith In The Heartland on the last album they put out?

cdollaz 05-05-08 05:19 PM

You can hear clips of all of the songs here:

If it wasn't for the letter W, these songs might still not have names.

Patman 06-03-08 04:00 PM

FYI, the album dropped today.

I'm contemplating checking out their concert (with Heart and Cheaptrick) when they hit town in August.

fsubruce 06-03-08 07:49 PM

The album is only available at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club and also comes with a live DVD recorded earlier this year in Vegas with the new singer. I was on the fence about picking this up but $11.88 for two CDs and a DVD is an incredible bargain.

candyrocket786 06-03-08 09:53 PM

Just picked this up and went straight to the DVD.

GOD DAMN!!!!!!! This is one hell of a package and best damn $11.88 I've spent at Walmart. :D

I am fucking impressed with Pineda. Stage presence and Vocal Ability are just truly amazing!

Hopefully I'll get to see them in concert..

Haven't watched the DVD yet, but I gave a quick spin to both CDs and I'm equally impressed. What's cool is that Arnel does a great Steve Perry on the old stuff, but has his own voice on the new material (but it is clearly a very Steve Perry-inspired voice.) The new songs are VERY strong, which is a huge surprise, and actually stand up next to disc two's old stuff. That is something I never imagined I would say in 2008.

Boba Fett 06-03-08 11:39 PM

What was that Journey song where they were stalking some woman in the gardening/lumber section of an old Builder's Square?

"Separate Ways"? I kinda remember that one. It do recall it was was from 'Frontiers', just not positive of which song.

Just horrible.... ranks right up there with Billy Squier as the worst of the 80s videos....

Yeah, that's the one. I think at one point in the video they pretended to play instruments as well.

I gotta go look it up on YouTube now.

Boba Fett 06-04-08 02:35 AM

The song is actually pretty good, but the video ruins it for me; you can't help but get an image of the crazy shit that when on in the video.

Things to watch for:
Playing invisible instruments.
The band member who may or may not be Jeff Foxworthy.
One of the guys acting like he's a cat.
The pink and black checkered tank top.
Shawn Michaels playing the keyboard glued to the warehouse wall.
The drummer with a shirt that says FOOSBALL
The set, which looks like sheets of yellow corrugated cardboard, almost breaking when Steve Perry pounds his fist.
The singing in the woman's face.
The lineup of faces, which is where I nearly pass out form laughing.

All this and there's still around 2 mins of video left.

Dude, it's called variation's on a theme. The scarab is kinda their logo/mascot. It's much like how "Eddie" is on every Iron Maiden album cover.
