Quiet Riot singer dead at 52

Quiet Riot singer Kevin Dubrow was found in his home on Sunday. Goto www.metal-rules.com for more details.
It is a sad day. METAL HEALTH was my first metal tape and what got me into metal and hard rock.

TGM 11-26-07 09:14 AM

Still one of the coolest album covers ever. RIP.

Whaaaat?!

Jason 11-26-07 10:10 AM

Bummer. I remember wearing that tape out a long time ago. And being surprised how well it held up years later when I finally bought the CD.

Confirmed: QUIET RIOT Singer KEVIN DUBROW Dead At 52 - Nov. 26, 2007

QUIET RIOT drummer Frankie Banali has confirmed the passing of the group's singer, Kevin DuBrow, at the age of 52. In an e-mail to Spain's The Metal Circus, which had requested a comment from Banali on the rumors of DuBrow's death, the drummer wrote, "I can't even find words to say. Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow." UPDATE: The same statement can now be found on Frankie Banali's official web site.

Michael Politz of The Vegas Eye reported earlier today that DuBrow was found dead in his Las Vegas home on Sunday, November 25. According to Politz, DubRow — whom Politz calls "one of my closest friends" — recently celebrated his 52nd birthday in New Orleans "where he ate great food and even caught THE CULT at The House of Blues."

Although the band has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, bassist Kelly Garni, who was one of the founding members of QUIET RIOT, has posted the following message on the Randy Rhoads (late QUIET RIOT/OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist) web site RandyRhoads.tk:

"I ask this to all of you not only for myself but for other friends and family. I ask that no one here offer any speculation or opinions, theories or other things that could be construed as negative or, and I'm sorry for this, even sympathetic, right at this immediate time. I am already within hours of this having to deal with untrue rumors and speculation and that only adds fuel to that. There is a tendency for the subject of Kevin to incite flames on every board and now is not the time for that. I will explain to everyone here the facts and the truth in the next 24 to 48 hours as I realize this will effect us all. So please, until then, be patient. All details and other pertinate info will be passed on to you here when it becomes available to me. Thank you."

In 2004, DuBrow recorded a collection of cover versions for his first solo album, "In for the Kill".

QUIET RIOT's latest studio CD, "Rehab", was released on October 3, 2006. The lineup on the album was Kevin DuBrow, Frankie Banali, Tony Franklin and Neil Citron. Legendary singer Glenn Hughes also made a guest vocal appearance on the LP.

If they haven't come right out with the cause, I'm guessing it can only mean one thing.

Auto-erotic asphyxiation?

Tenacious D 11-26-07 12:20 PM

That's a shame. I remember saving my allowance to buy Metal Health when it came out after hearing Cum on Feel the Noize and Metal Health on the radio. I was in 3rd Grade at the time :D

Xander 11-26-07 12:22 PM

Sad to see a rocker fall. :(

emanon 11-26-07 01:53 PM

Did the lead singer of Slade die about ten years ago?

(sorry, I know that was bad...) :(

astrochimp 11-26-07 02:03 PM

Sad to hear that :(

RIP Kevin.

Hollowgen 11-26-07 03:45 PM

If I get what you're hinting, it's sad that the last QR album was titled Rehab

<--saw QR in 2001

cactusoly 11-26-07 06:17 PM

that sucks !

zombiezilla 11-26-07 07:00 PM

Damn, that sucks. RIP Kev; and piss on what the wags say. Rock on.

EdTheRipper 11-26-07 07:47 PM

I saw them live a couple of times. They always put on a good show. RIP Kevin.

Celtic Bob 11-26-07 08:26 PM

Never got to see them live. :(
Had METAL HEALTH on all day. I cannot find my Rehab cd. Arghhh!!!! GUILTY PLEASURES from a couple years ago was a decent album. That had the classic MH line-up.
RIP Kevin

HOLY CRAP!!!

I can't believe it. Wow. I've always been a Quiet Riot fan, and even though Kevin became a bit of an ass in the mid 80's the band was always entertaining and their music was fun to listen to.

Sadly, I never got to see Quiet Riot live. I've seen almost all of my favorites live, but I was short on cash when the Condition Critical tour came to town, so I had to pass. That was the QR tour to see - a big production and all the great QR songs.

This is really shocking news. There are so many possible causes of his death that speculation would just be stupid at this point. We'll know what happened soon enough, and no matter what it is a tragic end. He went from the absolute peak of the Rock and Roll world down to near rock bottom in less than a decade. The fact that he rebuilt Quiet Riot into a viable band that was a moneymaker (not big money, but enough to live on) was a bit of an accomplishment.

I am actually in the group that likes Condition Critical just as much as (if not more than) Metal Health.

Later QR albums that were really good were Terrified (poor production, great songs), and Down to the Bone.

Like many people, I've always had mixed feelings about Kevin. He could be an ass at times, but at others he recognized that he could be an ass and apologized for it and seemed to genuinely try to make up for it. He knew he killed the band with his mouth and all the stupid things he said, and he had to live with that.

Still, he will be missed. He was always entertaining.

And a guy that Randy Rhoads picked to be the lead singer for Quiet Riot, and became his close friend, couldn't be all bad.

Great album. Sadly, both Kevin and Kenny Hillery (far right) are now dead.
Hillery committed suicide in 1996 (a year after leaving the band).

Maybe he just slipped in the bathroom and banged his head.

RIP Kevin. You filled my early teenage years with the perfect music for me and my fellow nerds to blast while driving around and not getting chicks.

cactusoly 11-26-07 11:00 PM

saw them live a few years ago in a really small town, with the classic line up intact. great show. I got my Metal Health CD signed by the whole band including Kevin.

A few months before that I saw them open for Poison, I went for mainly QR and had little interest in Poison.

Some people either forget (or are too young to know) just how big Quiet Riot was in 1983 & 1984. They were absolutely huge.

mikelowry 11-28-07 05:19 AM

I still can remember my head banging days... come on feel the noise!

Yep. First "metal" band to have a #1 album!
