Any fans here of Finntroll and/or After Forever?

Im fans of both and lucked out that they joined together for one show in my town.

After Forever are just starting their US tour and Im a huge fan of theirs (prog fans should know this group) and I got to meet and hang out with them for awhile. Especially the guitarist Sanders, real class act. Floor was beautiful in person and talking to her was amazing. The whole band was great (except Joost who stayed hidden most the night!) If theyre in town and you like prog, go see em.

Finntroll is a whole nother beast. As the name says theyre Finnish Folk Death Metal. Expect a whild crowd and a fun show. Some shmuck even went to the show dressed as a troll... yea weird. But they were fun and real nice in person. Talked to them for a long while getting drunk outside the tour bus (not me though cause I had to drive). But a fun unique group, go see em!

I like stuff like After Forever, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, etc. Never listened to Finntroll though.

Go see After Forever if they come near you they give a nice live show, real high energy.

Id like to see Within Temptation but they never come through town.

I learned of After Forever through Ayreon. They teamed up to do Queen's "Who Wants to Live Forever," which is excellent, btw.

I've enjoyed Floor's work on Ayreon's The Human Equation as well.

Never heard of Finntroll.

*edit - just checked out a half dozen clips on lala from Finntroll:
music:
vocals:

The vocals are the polar opposite of After Forever.

I just caught Finntroll in San Francisco last week and they put on an awesome show. Normally I'm not into the whole 'cookie monster' vocals thing, but there's something unique about them.

At dead least, I recommend checking out 'Trollhammeren' to get a good idea of their general style.

And, on that note, Moonsorrow is another great band that shares the same keyboardist.

I have the After Forever CD EP where they cover Maiden's "The Evil That Men Do" and they are pretty good.

I like Floor's voice, but I don't like the grunter. The grunting doesn't happen much, so it doesn't kill songs like so many other bands similar to AF.
