Great Albums : Jars of Clay : "Jars of Clay" (1995)

I would really like to hear some discussion about this classic album.

I think it was the first time I could put aside my dislike of organized religion and actually listen to a 'Christian' album without being put off totally. I mean, the music is STILL so amazing, every track so different, so memorable. The perfect CD to just play on repeat and never get tired of.

Somehow none of the Jars' later albums would be as great as this one, and Im wondering if this CD had a profound effect on any of the users here as it has on me....

I haven't listened to that album in six years. I'm sure today I'd find a bunch of it kind of wimpy sounding, but enjoyable for what it is. Their two albums after had much beefier production... bit more to my liking.

it's still one of my favorite albums, christian or not. it's one of those cds that are forever tied to a part of my life and that part was pretty great. i remember when "flood" was used in that horrible movie "hard rain" (was that the name of it? ugh, it was awful).

i saw jars of clay live one time and i for the most part do not remember anything about it (i was young!).

and, no, they probably never did anything as great as the first album. "much afraid" had some very interesting songs and "if i left the zoo" was much more accessible. after those, i lost track. i know they're still together, though -- at least, last i checked.

great album.

They are still together. While their debut is certainly interesting, I think their real strength in song writing has improved over the years, and excelled in the last two albums they have released: Who We Are Instead (2003) and Good Monsters (2006).
