NIRVANA: MTV Unplugged [DVD] -11/20/07

Nirvana's 'Unplugged' Finally Heading To DVD

Nirvana's Nov. 18, 1993, "MTV Unplugged" taping will make its DVD debut Nov. 20 via Universal Music Enterprises. "MTV Unplugged in New York" was released Nov. 1, 1994, on CD, the first Nirvana product to appear following Kurt Cobain's suicide that April.

Like the CD, the DVD will include the songs "Something in the Way" and "Oh Me," which did not appear on the original MTV broadcast. The DVD also sports four tracks from the band's soundcheck and previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage.

Nirvana's "Unplugged" date is arguably the most famous in the long-running series, as the band eschewed most of its hits in favor of lesser-known album tracks and obscure covers (particularly, three Meat Puppets songs). The live version of "About a Girl" reached No. 1 on Billboard's Modern Rock tally.

Here is the track list for "MTV Unplugged in New York":

"About a Girl"
"Come As You Are"
"Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam"
"The Man Who Sold the World"
"Pennyroyal Tea"
"Dumb"
"Polly"
"On a Plain"
"Something in the Way"
"Plateau"
"Oh Me"
"Lake of Fire"
"All Apologies"
"Where Did You Sleep Last Night"

Funny how people who supposedly don't care about something still have nothing better to do after 13 years.

I have the bootleg DVD but will definitely pick this up.

There's more to Nivana than "Incesticide".

Check out "Bleach", "Nevermind" and "In Utero". All are great albums.

I like all the albums. Bleach, Nevermind, Incesticide, In Utero, Unplugged.

Well I should say 5 good albums, I wasnt counting Unplugged because it had songs from other albums on it, but I guess I should have counted that too because of the covers on it. I think Nevermind is a great album. Yes its been over hyped for years but it is still a great album IMO.

Actually only 10. "Come As You Are" and "Something In The Way" kind of sucked.

i owned bleach before they had a second hit. i think it was considered rare when i had it...i was 15 though so maybe i just thought that because nobody else had it. i like nirvana i just dont think they were the second coming like most people claim.

i was more of an alice in chains, soundgarden, pearl jam fan during the grunge days. i still think they are all superior bands to nirvana.

I rarely look in music talk now I am very glad I did today. I hope there is some extras because there was some nice interviews that have aired on mtv where they talk about this unplugged and how the whole meatpuppets thing surprised them, but ended up sounding great even though the songs were a stretch for kurts abilities.

We all have our own opinions. I like the loud guitar heavy version from the Mark Goodier sessions, but the Nevermind version is just too mellow. Mellow = teh suck (in my opinion)

The DVD of the best selling Nirvana Unplugged 1993 show in New York (Nirvana- Unplugged in New York) is coming available on November 20. The DVD will contain the entire performance, unedited, and enhanced in Dolby Stereo and DTS 5.1 Surround. The DVD will not only include the unedited 66 minute show but will also add the original 44-minute cut of the show. Other added footage includes rehearsals, Bare Witness interview, and a standard Photo Gallery. It’s pretty complete and perfectly encapsulates the event in its entirety. Nirvana Unplugged in New York will be available from Geffen Records on November 20.
