Actually I did.
|
I didn't know he could play at all. I thought that guitars were mostly props for these country guys.
|
How about that. I'm not really a fan nor do I know the first thing about him, but it was very refreshing to see this display of a huge mainstream "country" music artist have some actual musical talent. It appears that he got his start as a musician first, and entertainer second, which is different from a lot of mainstream artists- regardless of genre. Guitars should NOT be props. Good for him.
|
That was actually pretty cool. Always nice to see a musician who has talent and isn't afraid to show it off. He did a pretty good Jack Butler impersonation at first and then I liked the cover song licks he threw in, especially the bluegrassy Stairway.
|
Yeah, country players use guitars as props, but all those metal players, they have real talent.
Right. |
Yeah, it pretty much is right, actually.
|
I definitely agree w/you, abrg923.
|
damn! i did not, nice job! country music doesn't often showcase guitar chops, so pretty cool to see!

Very cool

yep, I knew that
|
is that really Keith Urban? Been a while since I'd seen him... guess rehab and marriage can really change someone...
nothing too impressive with the fret work... it had all been done before... do something original... then I'll be impressed why does he have a Michael Rhodes clone playing bass??? right down to the shaved head... get the real deal, not some lame imitation... |
Actually seen him on a PBS show when Golden Road Album was out, and my thought was who is this band as they reminded me of a band called Del Amitri. I was very impressed with his guitar work as his solos have some feeling in them.
|
What's sad is that it's a surpirse a mainstream country artist can actually play something with substance sometimes. Was that Urban who played Gimme Shelter with Alicia Keys at the Live Earth event?

The thing is, the really talented country players aren't really "names" - they're mostly session players out of Nashville and such and they make up the backing bands of the bigger names that aren't necessarily awesome players. But since metal players tend to be flashier, the more prominent talents are more typically front and center and better "known".

There are a lot of metal guys from the '80s that ended up going into country (many that I know personally, though not many "big names" since they already had their niche - mostly session guys) for 2 main reasons: they got too old for the metal scene, and metal actually was more limiting to their skills than country, which is obviously more subtle than metal, but for a seasoned player, it has more variety and greater technical requirements, in the upper echelons, anyways. |

That's droll, man. |

YOU are the one throwing out blanket statements with no support. That makes you alot worse than being ignorant. We're all waiting. |
