Nick Drake - Fruit Tree Boxset Rerelease

According to IGN...
Nick Drake will get the full career retrospective treatment come November 6th, 2007, when the updated version of the historical box set Fruit Tree gets released.

Originally released back in 1979, Fruit Tree consisted of all three of Drake's studio albums--Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter and Pink Moon. The new version, which will be limited to a total of 10,000 copies, will consist of the three aforementioned albums and also contain the Nick Drake biographical film A Skin Too Few, as well as a new 108-page book featuring song by song analysis by producer Joe Boyd, engineer John Wood, arranger Robert Kirby and songwriter/music journalist and friend Robin Frederick.

Additionally, a limited quantity of the set (2,000 copies) will be available on premium vinyl. This vinyl set, which includes the DVD and book, is also a one-time run only.
Very exciting news...I've been holding out for a vinyl set for awhile.

Also, if you live in the L.A. or San Francisco area, there's a handful of Nick Drake-related events in the beginning of October too.

This is fantastic news, the book sounds like a nice touch. I think 'Pink Moon' as to be my favourite.

Thanks for the heads up anyway neocheddar02!

I already have his 3 studio albums and Made To Love Magic, so I will pass on this. It is a good deal though for people who don't have any of his albums.

Just search 'fruit tree vinyl'

Actually, it looks like Amazon is sold out...or something--it was for sale the other day. Weird, I hope it comes in stock somewhere, since they're only making (!) 2000 copies.

All Songs Considered, an NPR show, had a five or ten minute talk about this album in the Summer '07 Preview show (June 6, '07). Turns out that after he died, people would stop by his house to see where he died (or be where he died) and the parents would sometimes pass out cassettes of music, many of these songs are now on this CD collection.

You can download this podcast here:

http://podcastdownload.npr.org/anon....r_10786437.mp3

It includes a couple twenty or thirty second clips.

Just keep in mind that there's "Family Tree" and "Fruit Tree".

Just a heads up if you have MHD (MTV HD), I caught a Nick Drake documentary called "A Skin Too Few" a couple of weeks ago. Worth watching. I'd guess it will air again.

OK, I see what's going on. There are two releases from Nick Drake this year, Fruit Tree and Family Tree.

Fruit Tree, which just came out, consists of his three studio albums (Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter, and Pink Moon), a collection of outtakes and unreleased tracks called Time of No Reply, and a DVD with the documentary "Skin too Few" mentioned above. Cost is $54 from Amazon.

Family Tree, released this past summer, has 28 never-released recordings by Nick Drake and family, recorded on reel to reel and cassette in his home. These are mainly covers of other people’s songs. Cost is $14 from Amazon.

I haven't watched it yet, but according to the packaging: no. Just the documentary.
