Leaks Force Britney To Move Up Album Release to 10/30
October 10, 2007, 2:15 PM ET by Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. at www.billboard.com
Britney Spears has moved the release date of her new Jive album, "Blackout," from Nov. 13 to Oct. 30 due to widespread leaks of the new material.
"The label is doing everything possible to prevent and avoid any further illegal distribution of songs including moving up the release date of the album," reads a statement from Jive.
The label claims some of the leaks constitute "unfinished material and demos," as well as actual album versions of songs from "Blackout."
Here is the track list for "Blackout":
Gimme More (4:11) (produced by Danja)
Piece of Me (3:32) (produced by Bloodshy & Avant)
Radar (3:49) (produced by Bloodshy & Avant)
Break the Ice (3:16) (produced by Danja)
Heaven on Earth (4:52) (produced by Freescha and Kara Dioguardi)
Get Naked (I Got a Plan) (4:52) (produced by Danja)
Freakshow (2:55) (produced by Bloodshy & Avant)
Toy Soldier (3:21) (produced by Sean Garrett)
Hot as Ice (3:16) (produced by T-Pain)

Perfect Lover (3:02) (produced by Danja)
Why Should I Be Sad (3:10) (produced by The Neptunes)

I am not some huge Britney fan. I always thought she was cute as hell (back in the day), but wasn't terribly interested in her music. I liked Slave to Me and I really liked Toxic, and that is about it.
BUT I have heard probably about half of the tracks off her new album and really enjoy them. It's weird. I no longer find her sexy, she seems like a total train wreck, but I just can't help but enjoy this new music.

Has anyone heard the album in its' entirety yet?
I can only say that this is by far the most consistent work. Every track would work on radio. She has something on it called 'Heaven on Earth' that sounds like Eurythmics meets Kylie Minogue (in a good way).
The Kylie comparison is there throughout the CD. There are no ballads - this is one clubby dance track after the other - pretty standard verse-chorus-verse, but hey, if you like that sort of mindless fun pop, this would surely work for you. Personally I really like it...

It's streaming at mtv.com as part of the leak and yep, this is probably one of her best albums... it has the least amount of filler (only 2 songs I'm not into) and just about any of these songs could be hit singles... she might not have her personal shit together, but this album is Brit at the top of her game. If people can look past her shenanigans, this should be a hit... 'Piece of Me' should be a single immediately, it would help bring people back into the fold imo, lyrically it's the most relevant to her current situation (makes her more relatable) and is catchy as hell.

I like how you guys are attributing the quality of the songs to Britney herself. Like she did anything other than come into the studio and sing like they told her too.

Is "It's Britney, Bitch" the real name of the album title? Or is someone trying to be cute. I can't believe her record label would let her release an album with that title.
edit: oh, I guess it's called "Blackout". Why don't we save the goofy title names for April 1st?

All I've heard is that a group of her former friends is calling for a boycott of the album until she straightens up her life.

Well, it sounds like they're actually trying to help her:
Leave Britney(-related merchandise) alone! That’s the plea from friends and former employees of Britney Spears who’ve banded together to form Be Proactive to Help, a group seeking to send tough love to the fallen pop star by cutting the purse strings.
“Our message is simple,” one of the site’s organizers told E! Online. “Don't buy her stuff until she's better.”
“We've all hung out with Britney a lot,” the BPtH insider said. “We've seen her at her best and at her worst. And we aren't doing this to be mean. We're doing this out of concern, for herself and for her boys. They need a mother figure and right now, they don't have that.”
Why do the ex-pals, beleaguered bodyguards and disregarded dancers think a boycott will help the struggling star? It’s all about getting back at the fat-cat execs enabling Brit and cashing in along the way.
“Sitting around and talking about how bad of a person, singer, mother — whatever your thoughts are — these things won’t help change this very broken woman,” the group rants via its MySpace page. “Help Britney help herself by expressing your concern to those who are largely responsible for her success, and continue to capitalize on her every move.”
Of course the concerned colleagues didn’t explain how they expect Brit Brit to keep up the “Starbucks-n-pups” lifestyle she’s accustomed to sans records sales. Think ahead, y’all!
