Songs about George W. Bush
Given the controversial nature of both the 2000 election and the war in Iraq, a lot of songs have come out in recent years with good ole Dubya as their subject, either overtly stated or implied.
My favorite has to be a new tune by Nik Kershaw. It sums up pretty much what I think of him, both good and bad: Album: You've Got To Laugh Track: Loud, Confident & Wrong Just another stupid white man He was unemployed and rich An expert drunken driver With a most alarming itch He was belly deep in cronies They laughed at all his jokes There were sycophants and phonies And a lot of daddy’s folks He was Loud, proud, confident and wrong Bold, positive and strong Cold, sure but all along He was loud, proud, confident and wrong He cut his teeth in Texas That put him on the map Fried more than Colonel Sanders What an interesting chap B.S. inclination U.S. troglodyte A fundamental Christian Yeah, fundament is right He was Loud, proud, confident and wrong Bold, positive and strong Cold, sure but all along He was loud, proud, confident and wrong Got the job that he was born for Not quite bona fide He had brother in his corner And God was on his side To leave us in the shitehouse God thought he’d have some fun So he put him in the Whitehouse And said “give this man a gun” He was Loud, proud, confident and wrong Bold, positive and strong Cold, sure but all along He was loud, proud confident and wrong Bold, positive and strong Cold, ignorant and brash Flash, sure and all along He was loud, proud confident and wrong |
Well, I dont know how anyone could have anything at all positive to say about the monster that is GWB but I love Tori Amos' "Yo George" off of her American Doll Posse Album:
Yo George "I salute to you Commander and I sneeze ‘Cause I have Now an Allergy To your policies it seems Where have we gone wrong America? Mr. Lincoln we can’t seem to find you anywhere out of the millions From the deserts To the mountains Over prairies To the shores Is this just the Madness of King George Yo George Is this just the Madness of King George Yo George Well you have the whole Nation on all fours " |
Not Ready to Make Nice by the Dixie chicks is about bush/iraq (2 lazy to get into detail, just google it)
eminem - mosh (basically talkin about gov't, bush, buncha things |
Neil Young's entire "Living with War" album
|
Bushleaguer (off Riot Act) by Pearl Jam certainly fits the bill - ("born on third, thinks he got a triple")
|
"Now You've Got Something to Die For" from Lamb of God's "Ashes of the Wake" album:
Now you've got something to die for Now you've got something to die for Infidel, imperial Lust for blood, a blind crusade Apocalyptic, we count the days Bombs to set the people free, blood to feed the dollar tree Flags for coffins on the screen, oil for the machine Army of liberation, gunpoint indoctrination The fires of sedition Fulfill the prophecy Now you've got something to die for Now you've got something to die for Send the children to the fire, sons and daughters stack the pyre Stoke the flame of the empire, live to lie another day Face of hypocrasy, raping democracy Apocalyptic, we count the days We'll never get out of this hole Until we've dug our own grave And drug the rest down with us The burning home of the brave Burn. Now you've got something to die for Now you've got something to die for |

Son Of Bush by Public Enemy "the best rap about the subject".

mick jagger says "sweet neocon" has nothing to do with bush et al, but i find that hard to believe entirely. it's pretty good, too.

Ani Difranco has "Self Evident"; a long rambling poem about 9/11 and her thoughts of Bush. Here's a small excerpt of the lyrics:
cuz take away our playstations and we are a third world nation under the thumb of some blue blood royal son who stole the oval office and that phony election I mean it don't take a weatherman to look around and see the weather Jeb said he'd deliver Florida, folks and boy did he ever and we hold these truths to be self evident: #1 George W. Bush is not president #2 America is not a true democracy #3 the media is not fooling me cuz I am a poem heeding hyper-distillation I've got no room for a lie so verbose I'm looking out over my whole human family and I'm raising my glass in a toast It's a powerful performance, stirs up a lot of feelings and Ani doesn't hold anything back. |
Probably the most scathing and angriest anti-GWB song I've heard is the rapper Lil Wayne's "Georgia...Bush"
It's one of his mixtape songs set on top of the beat of the Field Mob/Ludacris's "Georgia" which in turn samples the old Ray Charles song "Georgia on My Mind." Lyrics can be found here: http://www.lyricsandsongs.com/song/709915.html |
Country Joe McDonald- "Support the Troops"
I've recently rediscovered this angry folk singer. Good stuff. :) |
|
A good chunk of Nine Inch Nail's Year Zero.
Probably at least half of the songs by harder punk bands produced in the last 5 years. Almost, if not all, of Ministry's Houses of the Mole album. |

I'm reaching, but...
Eminem - Mosh Disturbed - Defify You (I recall hearing Bush speak in the intro of the song) |
Immortal Technique- Bin Ladden
Man, you hear this bullshit they be talkin' Every day, man It's like these motherfuckers is just like professional liars YouknowwhatI'msayin? It's wild Listen [Hook - Mos Def] Bin Laden didn't blow up the projects It was you, ***** Tell the truth, ***** (Bush knocked down the towers)--[Jadakiss] Tell the truth, ***** (Bush knocked down the towers)--[Jadakiss] Tell the truth, ***** Bin Laden didn't blow up the projects It was you, ***** Tell the truth, ***** (Bush knocked down the towers)--[Jadakiss] Tell the truth, ***** (Bush knocked down the towers)--[Jadakiss] [Verse 1 - Immortal Technique] I pledge no allegiance, ***** fuck the president's speeches I'm baptized by America and covered in leeches The dirty water that bleaches your soul and your facial features Drownin' you in propaganda that they spit through the speakers And if you speak about the evil that the government does The Patriot Act'll track you to the type of your blood They try to frame you, and say you was tryna sell drugs And throw a federal indictment on niggaz to show you love This shit is run by fake Christians, fake politicians Look at they mansions, then look at the conditions you live in All they talk about is terrorism on television They tell you to listen, but they don't really tell you they mission They funded Al-Qaeda, and now they blame the Muslim religion Even though Bin Laden, was a CIA tactician They gave him billions of dollars, and they funded his purpose Fahrenheit 9/11, that's just scratchin' the surface [Hook] [Verse 2 - Immortal Technique] They say the rebels in Iraq still fight for Saddam But that's bullshit, I'll show you why it's totally wrong Cuz if another country invaded the hood tonight It'd be warfare through Harlem, and Washington Heights I wouldn't be fightin' for Bush or White America's dream I'd be fightin' for my people's survival and self-esteem I wouldn't fight for racist churches from the south, my ***** I'd be fightin' to keep the occupation out, my ***** You ever clock someone who talk shit, or look at you wrong? Imagine if they shot at you, and was rapin' your moms And of course Saddam Hussein had chemical weapons We sold him that shit, after Ronald Reagan's election Mercenary contractors fightin' a new era Corporate military bankin' off the war on terror They controllin' the ghetto, with the failed attack Tryna distract the fact that they engineerin' the crack So I'm strapped like Lee Malvo holdin' a sniper rifle These bullets'll touch your kids, and I don't mean like Michael Your body be sent to the morgue, stripped down and recycled I fire on house niggaz that support you and like you Cuz innocent people get murdered in the struggle daily And poor people never get shit and struggle daily This ain't no alien conspiracy theory, this shit is real Written on the dollar underneath the Masonic seal (I don't rap for dead presidents I'd rather see the president dead It's never been said but I set precedents)--[Eminem] [Hook] (Shady Records was 80 seconds away from the towers Some cowards fucked with the wrong building, they meant to hit ours)-- [Eminem Pumpkinhead- Grenades Give me a bulldozer, and before the world is over I'll find Bush and his daddy and run both their asses over The Bush's are trigger happy, and wanna be in the war Two people that like raising taxes and killing the poor |
Louis Logic- Ugly Truth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MD5HuTXZoc Really offensive, wait till the punchline at the end... |
Guster- "G Minor" off of the Satellite EP.
Everyone here's in trouble The man with the megaphone Smoke and mirrors and crystal balls and red alerts and all because Of the king who hides behind the pawns I can see what's really going on I can see what's really going on Everyone here's a bubble Merrily floating on Manicured suburban lawns and patriotic country songs Pledge allegiance, sing along I can see what's really going on I can see what's really going on Everyone here's in trouble Angels abandon guard History is cyclical Crusaders and the biblical Light their torches bang their gongs I can see what's really going on I can see what's really going on |
How about Patty Griffin's "No Bad News"? Partial lyrics...
Don't bring me bad news, no bad news I don't need none of your bad news today You're a sad little boy, anyone can see you're just a sad little boy That's why you're carrying on that way Why don't you burn it all down, burn your own house down, burn your own house down Try to kill your own disease And leave the rest of us, there's a lot of us, leave the rest of us Who wanna live in peace to live in peace You can't have my fear, I've got nothing to lose, can't have my fear I'm not getting out of here alive anyway |
|
Not really about him as much as his war, but John Fogerty's "Deja Vu All Over Again" is a great song. Apparently he'll also take another jab at the president on his next album as well.
Didn't George Michael do a song too... "Wag The Dog" maybe (I never heard it)? |
Jet Pilot by Son Volt
Jet pilot for the day Washed his sins away Loves to see the Rangers play His daddy has a job in Washington Wants to raise a Harvard son Junior liked to let his hair down Only trouble is, word gets around Revolution will be televised across living rooms and the great divide Robbing barren ghettos for us now everybody needs a hunting ground Jet Pilot flown away Got a passing grade Made it to the world stage A hemisphere away Death is on display The sins would never wash away Junior liked to let his hair down Only trouble is, word gets around Revolution will be televised across living rooms and the great divide Robbing barren ghettos for us now everybody needs a hunting ground Junior liked to let his hair down Only trouble is, word gets around |
