To The Sky is not only my favorite b-side/unreleased track, it is in my top 5 Cure songs overall.
|
On Saturday I ordered two tickets for the Chicago show, and it was easily the worst Ticketmaster experience I've had. The fan club pre-sale only had shite tickets available, and I wasn't able to get any floor seats even when the normal sale started. I was online and logged in minutes before each sale started.
Oh well... |

July 19, 2007, 3:00 PM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. It's still two years away, but the Cure frontman Robert Smith is well underway on a DVD documentary about the band that will be released in 2009, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its debut album, "Three Imaginary Boys." "This will include interviews with everybody who has ever been in the band, and everybody who has been an important part of the Cure," Smith reveals to Billboard.com, adding that the interview process will begin shortly. Smith is hoping to secure the services of longtime Cure video director Tim Pope to assist with the as-yet-untitled project. "Tim has been there from 1982 onward into the mid '90s," he says. "We've kept in touch and he's done some things with us since. People will react to him very well in an interview scenario." Due to time constraints, the documentary will take on a new life on the band's Web site, which will feature additional archival footage. "We're planning on an hour per decade, but there's at least 20 hours per decade on videotape and other weird formats," Smith notes. Also in the pipeline for 2008 are expanded reissues of the vintage Cure albums "Disintegration" and "Wish," which Smith had to put on hold while finishing the band's upcoming double-disc set for Suretone/Geffen. He says "Disintegration" will feature a bonus sic of new remixes, and that he's pushing for "Wish" to include a new 5.1 audio mix. "People seem to want to kill that off, which is a shame," he says of that format. "It's far and away the most fantastic way of listening to music." |
I just got 7th row tickets for the Houston show.

I'll probably get those remasters. I was holding off on buying quite a bit of The Cure's albums after I got into them, after seeing that they were remastering and expanding them (I tend to be a special edition whore with both movies AND music). While I already have Disintegration, I held off on buying Wish, so this will knock out both. |
I've been buying all the double discs and have been enjoying them.

Most of the material on the second discs are demos, live tracks, or stuff Robert found boxed up in his garage. And, unless you're a HUGE fan, they absolutely are not worth the extra $10-$15. I've been getting the two disc sets from BMG during free shipping sales, so I've been paying less for them than the single disc sets sell for in stores, and only marginally more than the single disc version would cost me from the club. |
The only 2 double-disc sets I have gotten, after listening to all of them first, are Head On The Door and Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me. I like much of the bonus material on those 2, and the quality is good.
|
I've actually enjoyed all of the 2-discs, but the main one that I've listened to repeatedly is the Glove - Blue Sunshine one. That album never really interested me, but hearing it with Robert's vocals adds a lot, I think.

Yeah, that's a cool set.

North American Fall 2007 Cure shows re-scheduled for Spring 8/24/2007 5:58:28 AM - by CURE:ROBERT With all apologies for any inconvenience or disappointment it may cause, we have made a decision to move the September/October 2007 North American Cure shows to April/May 2008. The schedule as it stands only gives us a couple of weeks to finish our new double album before we hit the road again, and we know this just isn’t enough time to complete the project to our total satisfaction. Although this last month’s tour of Australasia showed that a great Cure show is not dependent on a new Cure album, it has to be remembered that we hadn’t played Australia for 7 years, New Zealand for 15 years, Japan for 23 years(!), and Singapore or Hong Kong ever before – so the absence of ‘new’ songs in the set was not really much of an issue. However, we want to remodel/rework the live show for North America, change things around, incorporate new songs… and we need time and focus to do this. So although we can agree it is a great shame to move these dates – believe us we have been looking forward to them more than anyone! – and know there will be a lot of disappointed people out there, we honestly feel that in the bigger picture we are making the right decision. All tickets held for all 2007 North American Cure shows will be valid for the re-scheduled 2008 shows, and of course anyone who seeks a refund will be able to get one. All validity/refund/rescheduling details will be announced as soon as we have them. We are still going to headline the San Francisco Download Festival October 6th, and we will still be performing at the MTV Latin America Awards October 18th. We will also play the three scheduled Sports Palace Mexico City shows October 20th/21st/22nd, as by this point we feel sure we will have finished the new album, and will be more than happy to start dropping a fresh song or three into the set each night… Once again, our genuine apologies to anyone who is upset by this announcement - please be encouraged by our promise: The Spring 2008 Cure shows will be even better than the Fall 2007 ones would have been!!! See you all soon… Love Robert, Simon, Jason and Porl – The Cure 24/8/07 |
Huh. Interesting. Well, that makes life easier for me. I hadn't yet purchased my tickets for the Hollywood Bowl show.
|
Well, they're finally releasing 4:13 Dream tomorrow and it won't be a double album (though I read on Wikipedia that the "darker" songs they recorded will be put out on a future album).
I haven't heard the four actual singles yet, so it'll be nice to go into it kind of fresh. I am digging the new remixes and b-sides, though, so that's a good sign. |

The Best song They recorded did not even make the cd. Look on youtube for them playing " the boy I never knew " in concert . Its seriously one of ther best in many years.

That is a good song. I was fortunate to hear it live in Houston. It was the only time they played it live in the US. I like Underneath the Stars the best though.

The reverb and echo in Robert's voice killed "Underneath The Stars" for me to the point of annoyance. He has such a great voice so why mask it behind all those effects?

My biggest problem is that the guitar is mixed way too low on some songs. Especially when the wah effect is used.
|
I think after Bloodflowers, the band changed it's tone with stuff like Cut Here, the change made to "Just Say Yes" and IMO this album sounds pretty close to the self-titled album. I miss the atmospheric pieces, "Like Cockatoos, Where the birds always sing, and Disintegration." The straight rock style doesn't really suit them well.
As for great BSides, I totally agree about "To the Sky", and the Clearmountain mix is great. Plus there's the acoustic version of "Signal to Noise" and "Spilt Milk" from Bloodflowers. |

Just listened to this, and was blown away by the opening track (underneath the stars). Unfortunately, the rest of the cd doesn't come close to greatness of the first song...
