Really annoying artists/bands

So I was thinking: What artists or bands do you consider really annoying, meaning you feel they're so talentless you can't stand their music or that they have a novelty factor or element in their music/lyrics that seems stupid.

My very first choice would have to be the Spin Doctors. My friends and I have throughout the years made a running joke off them; when we go see a new band we haven't heard we always remind ourselves: "Well, it couldn't be any worse than Spin Doctors". I never understood their appeal, not to mention their songs sounded horrible to me. In the novelty area, although I'm a huge indie rock fan, I find Jon Spencer Blues Explosion hip hop/rock parodies very lame. I know a lot of people dig that, but I think his "Play the blues, punk", "We're the Blues Explosion, we're #1" phrases get old really fast. In short, they annoy the hell outta me.

Also, any boy band (or girl band, as in the Spice Girls) is automatically annoying by definition.

So, what artists/bands personally annoy you?

Personally annoying, in spite of any talent they might have:

The Flaming Lips
The Decemberists
Sufjan Stevens

Anything remotely connected to rap music, except the first few RUN-DMC records and the Beastie Boys Licence To Ill.

That'll bring'em out, Cow.

Avril Lavigne

Sorry, I decided to run and hide. Good call, though.

Smashing Pumpkins. Corgan's voice annoys the piss out of me on most songs, and all the damn drama and fighting between members over the years.

Oasis, bunch of sappy songs and all the damn fighting between the Gallagher's.

And I second the pretty much anything Rap, and add hip hop/R&B and teen pop (not just the boy/girl groups, but also the solo acts) to the list.

Marilyn Manson - Dude, we get it. You don't want "square people" to like you. Stop being such a freak.

Rage Against the Machine - Every single damn thing is political to these guys and they don't shut up about it.

Frank Black/Black Francis - Honestly don't know what bugs me about him, but every video, interview or guest host gig I saw of him on MTVs 120 Minutes in the 90s annoyed the hell out of me. I avoided the Pixies forever because he was in it (I've since gotten over it and now enjoy their albums, but I fear if I ever see him interviewed again I'll regress).

There are plenty of annoying bands who do have talent, many already listed (Oasis, Marilyn Manson, Frank Black, Beastie Boys, Smashing Pumpkins, I agree with all those; annoying, but all do have some talent)

But Annoying bands who also have no talent:
Insane Clown Posse (this is based on the 2 songs I've heard from them. Maybe all the others are great, but I kinda doubt it). But can they really even be counted as a real band?

P-Diddy/Puff Daddy. Maybe he has some talent, but I haven't seen it. And he sure is annoying.

Bon Jovi. I challenge you to find more than a line or two in any BJ song that doesn't contain a cliche. Nearly always their songs are made up of literally nothing *but* cliches connected by conjunctions. It's amazing.

Tscott, I couldn't agree more. Not only that, they're just a bunch of hypocrites. Fugazi has more integrity than these guys could have ever dreamed of and never hammered their ideas to people like these guys did.

Dream Theater

Any rock band on radio (Incubus, Nickelback, RHCP)

American pop music in general is annoying!

JP5683 06-20-07 03:28 AM

I can't stand anything by the Smashing Pumpkins except for the song Eye. I freaking love it to freaking death.

I can't stand Celine Dion either. I find it humorous that even her child hates her singing. If I ever see her somewhere on the street or something, I think I'll have to slap her for singing so much crap.

Those are the only two I can think of off the top of my head.

A lot of stuff I say I don't like, but then I'll hear it umpteen times without trying, on TV, or over the 'radio' in a store, or whatever, and it will grow on me after awhile.

DrRingDing 06-20-07 04:54 AM

My two cents (one each) go to James Blunt and Maroon 5, because both are overplayed and have the most obnoxious voices.

White Stripes annoy me.

 The thread wasn't what type or genre of music annoys you, it was artist/band...

For me, its U2. I hope Bono crawls into a hole and never comes out. I can't stand that preachy bastard or his music.

TGM 06-20-07 07:08 AM

Train. I fucking can't stand Train.

dadaluholla 06-20-07 07:38 AM

SUBLIME - I just can't stand their music. I was hoping it would have declined in radio play over the past 10 years but sadly every time I turn on the radio I'm doomed to hear "What I Got" or "Santeria". Barf.

BOB MARLEY- Yuck. Maybe you have to get high before listening to this stuff, but it just doesn't work for me.

I'm annoyed by Bright Eyes: painfully pretentious and earnest. His yelping, whining voice makes me want to strangle something.

Wow , they are the first band that came to mind before I opened the thread. I've always hated them, especially after seeing that stupid video where the lead singer was dancing around like a retard wearing that dumb hat.

Also, Guns N Roses (the new lineup) Even though they are my favorite band they have yet to released Chinese Democracy.

Most of their songs are poems of pick up lines.

Pointyskull 06-20-07 08:31 AM

The Black Crowes are the poster children for my "most annoying"

Followed closely by every sideways-baseball-hat-wearing-baggy-pants-bling-bling-gangsta rapper out there.

Randy Miller III 06-20-07 08:46 AM

It's funny that The Decemberists and Bright Eyes were mentioned...
I find them sorta annoying but still enjoy their music overall. :D

A few recent groups that are too annoying to bear, however:

- Maroon 5 (though their latest single is OK)
- The Fray
- Rob Thomas / Matchbox 20
- Chris Daughty
