Lewis Taylor - Whoever

Unfortunately I had no idea of the title/artist at the time, so I didn't get into his stuff until about 5 years later when Lewis II came out and blew my fragile little mind...

Track 4 on ( ) for Sigur Ros. Heard it during Vanilla Sky and it got me hooked from there. Strangely enough, Track 3's become more of my favorite on that album now.

"Train in Vain" - The Clash

"Epic" - Faith No More (Although now I can name about 30 FNM songs I like better. I still like Epic).

"I Wanna Be Sedated" - Ramones

"Jeremy" - Pearl Jam

"Tom Sawyer" - Rush

"Schism" - Tool

"Under Pressure" - Queen

The rest of my favorite bands (Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Anthrax, Primus, Queensryche, Helloween, etc.) I don't think there was one song. I think I was introduced to an entire album from someone else and then expanded from there.

"A Wall I Must Climb" - Michael McDermott
"Duvet" - Boa
"The Show Must go On" - Queen (I'd heard the We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions single many times before but always figured it was a one off/not that consequential a band, boy was I wrong)
"Prayer for the Dying" - Seal
"Snow on the Sahara" - Anggun
"Sober" - Tool
"Come and Get It" - Badfinger (not my favorite song of theirs by far, but intrigued me enough to keep on listening, although I'd say the cover art to _Magic Christian Music_ iinterested me more)
"Way Down in the Hole" - Tom Waits
"Bloodletting" - Concrete Blonde
"Killing an Arab" - The Cure
"Taxi" - Harry Chapin
"Joyride" - Roxette

I have way too many 'favorite artists' to continue listening but these are all some of my most listened to.

Michael

I'll mention any artist I have several albums of and/or a continuing interest in their material. I usually don't hear songs by artists, rather entire albums. I buy a LOT of music blind, so songs don't "sell" to me the way they used to.

a-ha - "Take on Me"
Arcade Fire - "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)"
Beck - "Whiskeyclone Hotel City 1997"
Björk - "Army of Me"
Bloc Party - "Banquet"
Blur - "Charmless Man"
Brand New - "Okay, I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't"
Ladytron - "Discotraxx"
LCD Soundsystem - "Losing My Edge"
Manu Chao - "Clandestino"
Radiohead - "Creep"
St. Germain - "Rose Rouge"

To name a few.

"Hit" > The Sugarcube then Bjork. Actually, the "Hit" video made me fall in love with Bjork and I got into The Sugarcubes then Bjork went solo.

"The Trooper" > Iron Maiden
"Subdivisions" then "Tom Sawyer" > RUSH
At first "Dirty Deeds" then later "Back in Black" sealed the deal > AC/DC
"Detroit Rock City" > KISS
"Mob Rules" > Black Sabbath > Ronnie James Dio
"Breaking the Law" > Judas Priest

Dio - "Stand up and Shout"
AC/DC - "Back in Black"
Black Sabbath - "Mob Rules"
Ted Nugent - "Cat Scratch Fever"

UFO - "Lights Out"
Ratt - "You Think You're Tough"
Saxon - "Redline"
Van Halen - "You Really Got Me"
Def Leppard - "Let It Go"

That's off the top of my head...

Without going into a whole list, Sea Legs by The Shins really got me hooked on them, and one of the singles from R.E.M.'s Green was what did it there (I was only 12 when I heard it...but I knew I liked it.)
