Sonata Arctica just had a new one too.

Devin Townsend - Ziltoid the Omnisient

Circus Maximus later this year also.

Maybe this should be the "Prog/Power Thread"

bunkaroo 05-24-07 01:46 PM

Should Porcupine Tree count under this heading? Fear of a Blank Planet is a grower but another great piece of work - one of the most important prog bands out right now IMO.

DrRingDing 05-24-07 03:51 PM

Wrong forum, and I should know, I live in Prague!!!

;)

(Sorry, I just had to...)

Thudd 05-29-07 09:20 AM

What about the new Threshold album? I'm gnawing a hole in my cd player draw waiting for this one to arrive on my doorstep!

Michael Corvin 05-29-07 10:59 AM

I've added everything mentioned. I also went through my bookmarks checking in with other bands. Noticed Coheed & Cambria already have a new one due as well as Superior.

truemindframe 05-30-07 06:36 PM

you need to add:
Redemption - Origins of Ruin
Raintime - Flies and Lies
Iron Savior - Megatropolis
Allen/Lande - The Revenge

ps/ great thread!

Great as these might be, they're not prog...

Snowmaker 06-01-07 08:21 AM

I know Pyramaze is working on their next one with new lead singer Matt Barlow!!

cdollaz 06-01-07 05:46 PM

I'm listening to the new Saga - Worlds Apart Revisited and it is pretty darn good.

Snowmaker 06-14-07 09:25 PM

Long live prog!

Close to the Edge is the best thing ever made.

don't forget about Dreamscape's 5th Season coming out in July

I thought this thread was going to be about progressive house music.

You can listen to it wherever you want. House, car, work.... :D

Snowmaker 06-28-07 08:09 PM

If you hurry, you can hear a full instrumental demo of a new Ayreon song before they remove it:

Michael Corvin 06-28-07 08:55 PM

Cool. Thanks for the heads up.

Oooh, it has a 'Migrator' vibe to it. I think the album was rumored to be Universal Migrator III.

Snowmaker 06-29-07 08:17 AM

And its gone.

Michael Corvin 07-09-07 12:57 PM

Vocalist #2 is recorded for Ayreon's project. Hear an acoustic sample

Ravenous 07-14-07 10:27 PM

God I hope Arjen remembers to solo and use singers that ARENT there just cause their popular. Get some uknowns, whoever, just make sure they have talent and mesh!

BTW, have you guys heard of Shadow Gallery. For fans of SX and DT, they really need to be heard. I cannot praise them enough. Baker was the only bright spot on Human Equation I think (though Okerfeldt and Townsend were great)

Michael Corvin 07-16-07 10:32 AM

I listened to an early Shadow Gallery album and couldn't get into it at all. Anything more recent that you would recommend?

Queensryche debuted at the #1 Billboard spot for music DVDs for Mindcrime at the Moore. Anyone pick it up?

This marks the band's first ever #1 chart debut. The double DVD set, released July 3 from Rhino, captures Queensr˙che's performance of both Operation: mindcrime I and II in their entirety in front of a rabid hometown crowd at Seattle's Moore Theatre. The marathon show includes a full theatrical production complete with surround sound, video imagery, actors portraying the concept albums' characters onstage with the band, and a special appearance from the Seattle Seahawks drum line. Billboard has called the release a “real treat” and “a must for R˙che and Rollers.”

“This concert is the realization of an idea that began nearly two decades ago,” says Tate. “The story and music of Operation: mindcrime is very dear to the band. We are thrilled with this performance and proud to share it with our audience.”

------------
A 10 minute sample from Ayreon's new album can be heard on his MySpace page.

Very Migrator-ish.

Michael Corvin 07-25-07 07:39 AM

Some sound bites from TSR - True Symphonic Rockestra, still no date though.

Updating the top.

Coheed and Cambria are looking at October.

Nightwish has a date for September 28th.

Dreamscape - The release date was posponed to the 21st September, but not without a reason! Because "5th Season" will be the last album in the current lineup our label MASSACRE Records decided to release next to the regular album a special 6-page DIGIPAK with 2 Bonus-Tracks. So you have to wait a little bit longer, but it´s worth the wait!

Queensryche is putting out another greatest hits with a bonus disc of rarities and a new track. Details in the next post.

The new Epica is amazing, and I'm not a big fan of the female operatic lead singers.

On Saturday, September 8th BW&BK scribe Carl Begai attended a listening session for EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's forthcoming AVANTASIA album, The Scarecrow. On offer were 11 rough mixes featuring the official Avantasia line-up of Sammet (vocals), Sascha Paeth (rhythm and lead guitars), Eric Singer (KISS/drums) and Miro Rodenberg (keyboards and orchestration), Henjo Richter (GAMMA RAY/additional lead guitars), and several guest performers. According to Carl's report, the title track of the album "features Jorn Lande's best vocal performance ever"--a claim seconded by Paeth, who produced and is mixing the album--and "the heaviest song Alice Cooper has ever done." An in-depth report from the session will be available soon.

Artists appearing on the new Avantasia album include Roy Khan (KAMELOT/vocals), Kai Hansen (GAMMA RAY/guitars), Oliver Hartmann, Jorn Lande (ex-MASTERPLAN/vocals), Bob Catley (MAGNUM/vocals), Michael Kiske (ex-HELLOWEEN/vocals), Rudolph Schenker (SCORPIONS/guitars), Alice Cooper (vocals) and Amanda Somerville (vocals).

The Scarecrow tracklist is as follows:

1) 'Twisted Mind'--Tobias Sammet, Roy Khan (vocals), Sascha Paeth (lead guitar)

2) 'The Scarecrow'--Tobias Sammet, Jorn Lande (vocals), Sascha Paeth (lead guitars)

3) 'Shelter From The Rain'--Michael Kiske, Bob Catley, Tobias Sammet (vocals), Henjo Richter, Kai Hansen (lead guitars)

4) 'Carry Me Over'--Tobias Sammet (vocals), Sascha Paeth (lead guitar)

5) 'What Kind Of Love'--Amanda Somerville, Michael Kiske, Tobias Sammet (vocals)

6) 'Another Angel Down'--Jorn Lande, Tobias Sammet (vocals), Sascha Paeth, Henjo Richter (lead guitars)

7) 'The Toy Master'--Alice Cooper, Tobias Sammet (vocals), Sascha Paeth, Henjo Richter (lead guitars)

8 ) 'Devil In The Belfry'--Jorn Lande, Tobias Sammet (vocals), Henjo Richter (lead guitars)

9) 'Cry Just A Little'--Tobias Sammet, Bob Catley (vocals), Sascha Paeth (lead guitars)

10) 'I Don't Believe In Your Love'--Oliver Hartmann, Tobias Sammet (vocals), Rudolph Schenker (lead guitar)

11) 'Lost In Space'--Tobias Sammet (vocals)

Fans should note that the Lost In Space EPs (Part 1 and Part 2), due to be released on November 16th, will feature non-album material including cover versions of ABBA's 'Lay All Your Love On Me' and the ULTRAVOX hit 'Dancing With Tears In My Eyes'.

The Scarecrow is due to be released in January 2008.
