Feist - The Reminder 5/1/07

Anyone picked this up yet or grabbed an advance copy? I really dug her first two albums but thought the last one was subpar at best. I've seen nothing but positive reviews for this album yet and will probably grab it tonight.

Chaza 05-01-07 02:15 PM

Yeah, I'm probably going out later tonight to pick this one up. Best Buy has it for $7.99 so I'll get it there.

Sessa17 05-02-07 05:43 PM

Definitely gonna pick it up. Big fan of Broken Social Scene, & what I've heard off her new album has been pretty good so far.

SlingshotBandit 05-08-07 10:33 AM

I've listened to half the album now, and I have to say it doesn't do too much for me. Although that's not a telling sign of an album, since I usually need a few spins before I can determine whether I really like it or not.

The one track that stands out, and I really like, is "New Moon New Man". I replayed the song after hearing it the first time.

Keep listening

On first listen, it was ok, but it grows on you. Now I can't stop listening to it, 1 2 3 4.....

Anyways, if you wanna sample feist, here's a link to a blog that has the black sessions

Mods, I'm not sure if this is forbodden, so please delete if need be.

Hollowgen 05-09-07 09:30 PM

decent album. won't ever be at the top of my list to listen to, but it's got a few great songs!

NORML54601 05-10-07 04:17 PM

I like the new one though not quite as much as her first 2. If you're a fan of her work, I'd reccomend picking it up and it it does get better with repeated playings.

gjamesm 05-10-07 07:36 PM

I was under the impression that this is her second album, not counting the remix disc.

I just watched the vid for 1234 and it's fairly impressive for a one take video. I always get a little nervous watching something done in one take because I don't want them to mess up (yeah, even though it's not live).

Anyway, good song. Ready to hear the whole album.

Her first album Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down) [1999] is excellent as well.

atlantamoi 05-12-07 05:13 AM

This is a fine album. No complaints about dropoff here.

Her first was Monarch (Lay Down Your Jeweled Head) from 99
Second was Let it Die in 04

Great album. The Water and Intuition being the really standout, deep tracks.

I guess it was bound to happen at some point. For the first time I've been sucked in by a commercial. I've been seeing the one for the new Nano with the 1234 song playing and now I'm hooked. I'll be picking this up sometime this week.

Ill top you cuz I was sucked into Feist by TWO commercials. "My Moon My Man" was featured on a cell phone commercial and then "1234" on the iPod commercial. I just bought the cd an hour ago. So far its a nice, relaxing album. She has a beautiful voice.

JayDerek 09-25-07 11:11 AM

add me to the 'sucked in from the nano commercial' list. I'll have mine w/in a day or so.

Amel 09-25-07 12:05 PM

:) glad to see I'm not alone.

I winded up placing an order for the vinyl last night. Hopefully it'll be here by the end of the week. Not the instant gratification I was looking for. I was listening to the samples and I can't hardly wait to give this a full spin.

NORML54601 09-25-07 12:34 PM

For those of you who are digging this album, be sure to check out her first 2 as well. Both are excellent.

Drexl 09-26-07 11:02 PM

Just a little heads up - nothing else on the album really sounds like "1 2 3 4." It's a good album and all, but it's not exactly radio friendly aside from that song. She may end up being a one-hit wonder (not that that's a bad thing).

I like "Brandy Alexander." I wonder if there's a connection to the porn star of the same name (though I think she spelled it "Alexandre").

that's not true. there are other catchy & poppier songs on the album, like "sealion" for example. she's definitely not a one-hit wonder, either. that is, unless you're basing that on music you can only find & hear at best buy or in an ipod commercial.

Isn't that how most people define a one-hit wonder? It has nothing to do with whether a band has a lot of great material.

I think there's an implied lack of actual talent in a one-hit wonder....which Feist actually has.

And even, outside of the two commercials and KEXP, I don' think I've ever heard a Feist song on the radio.

 That's encouraging news for me since the only radio I listen to is classical and some (when I can find it) old-school jazz. 1234 doesn't sound a radio song to me either, I think that's what drew me to it in the commercial. Plus, I checked out all the samples from amazon before I ordered and I'm really digging her voice, which to me is all that matters.

skatefan20 09-28-07 10:31 AM

"The Reminder" has made a new fan out of me. My Moon My Man is my favorite track (tho I really didn't think much of it when those Verizon phone commercials were airing). Sea Lion and 1234 are fun, catchy arrangements.

Also just purchased "Let it Die". Not just a great voice, but she's a decent dancer.
**Definitely check out her low-key video for One Evening

Heads up: She'll be featured today on NPR's World Cafe from 2-4pm. You can listen to it here

Amel 10-02-07 07:55 PM

Finally received this today and had time to give it a spin and it's love at first listen. This will definitely be in heavy rotation the next few days. Between this record and the 3 Anna Netrebko cd's I just picked up I'm not sure I'll be doing much of anything else this week.
