Devils, Vampires rub elbows on Manson album
By Jonathan Cohen

NEW YORK (Billboard)- Marilyn Manson's obsession with the dark recesses of human behavior is at the forefront of his new album, "Eat Me, Drink Me," due in stores June 5.

The 11-track Interscope Records set is led by "If I Was Your Vampire," which can be sampled from Manson's MySpace.com page (http://www.myspace.com/marilynmanson).

"Eat Me, Drink Me," which was primarily recorded by Manson with guitarist/bassist Tim Skold, comes in the wake of the artist's high-profile divorce from model Dita Von Teese. Throughout, Manson is at turns angry ("The Red Carpet Grave," where he sings, "I can't turn my back on you when you walk away") and reflective ("They Said Hell's Not Hot," featuring the lyric "I kill myself in small amounts / In each relationship it's not about love / just another funeral and just another girl left in tears").

A number of tracks have a swagger often buried in the noisier elements of Manson's recordings. "Just a Car Crash Away" builds slowly to an impassioned ending, while "Heart Shaped Glasses" is a jumpy rocker with a hint of Gang Of Four-style post-punk guitar work. Vestiges of his old style crop up on "Are You the Rabbit?," which has the album's dirtiest industrial groove.

Manson and his band, which will include former Prodigy member Rob Halliday on bass, will hit the road beginning May 26 at the Pink Pop festival in Landgraaf, Holland. Dates are on tap through early July; North American shows with Slayer will begin later that month but a routing has yet to be announced.

In addition, work continues on the film "Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll," in which Manson will star as the "Alice in Wonderland" author and also direct.

The single "Heart Shaped Glasses" is suprisingly weak, it's more of a groover than a rocker i'd say.

Nope, he replaced Twiggy Ramirez as the bassist back in 2002.

damn I really out of it as far as Manson goes, and Tim Skold apparently (who should release another solo album)...I liked Holy Wood, but got bored with Golden Age of Grotesque rather quickly...hoping he gets together a cohesive album that is entertaining.

Skold should have stayed with KMFDM.

I heard "If i was Your Vampire" and was not too impressed. I don't recall much from Golden Age either, but I love Holy Wood, Antichrist Superstar and especially Mechanical Animals. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised...

what a stupid album title.

always been a fan of manson, and appreciated the "shock", but that's juvenile to the Nth degree.

well, the songs can't be much worse than the last outing.

It is a terrible album now, it ranks up there with 'Holy Wood', which was also a weak name.

The single, is somewhat catchy, but its no "rock" song. I actually didn't mind his last album, but have no hopes for this one.

I think the title is perfect for Manson. The phrase "Eat Me, Drink Me" calls to mind both Alice in Wonderland and the Eucharist.

The album is leaked. It's actually not as bad as the single overall. There aren't too many stand out tracks. I hate to make the comparison but it is kinda like RHCP's "Stadium Arcadium" in that musically all the songs kinda blend together.

Hello. I tried to send you an email. However, it wouldn't let me. Could you email me and tell me where I can listen to the leaked album? Thanks

I can't wait. I thought Golden Age of Grosteque was better than Holywood.
