Sound Tribe Sector 9 rock. I'm hoping to check them out when they hit Red Rocks again this year.

why doesn't Lollapalooza tour like it did in the 90's? I mean, Lollapalooza is far more up my alley than Ozzfest or Warped, two 90's franchises that still go everywhere each year.

Its far too costly for them to tour. Ozzfest and Warped a filled with mostly smaller bands that need the exposure. Plus the hold Lolla in Chicago because its the center of the US and bands supposedly make the most money in the midwest according to pitchfork.

Because they have fewer bands that people have heard of each year to mix with the new that people don't know (the balance of old/draw to the new). Seems like a dying event.

I bought a Lollapalooza ticket in 2004, their last attempt at a moving venue. It was a month after I started college, and they were playing at the fairgrounds in ventura. Right on the beach, plus it was only a 5 minute walk from my house.

Great line up too...

A two-day festival was planned for each city. The following acts were scheduled, but the tour was cancelled due to low ticket sales: Morrissey, PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, The Killers, Wilco, The Flaming Lips, The Von Bondies, String Cheese Incident, Modest Mouse, Le Tigre, Gomez, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Danger Mouse, The Polyphonic Spree, Broken Social Scene, The Datsuns, Bumblebeez 81, The Secret Machines, Brayndead Freakshow, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Elbow, Wheat, The Coup, Wolf Eyes, The Dresden Dolls

wikipedia doesn't list Incubus but they were on there too. but nooooooooooo
had to cancel due to low ticket sales. WTF?! Look at that lineup! 50 bucks! So dissapointed

I'd love to go to this, but I don't know if I'll have a different job by then, and I'd have to fly out to chicago.

Dirt cheap flights are always available to Chicago, especially into Midway. As for accommodations, you could easily find a hotel out in the sticks and take the Metra into downtown.

Another fantastic lineup. I went the last two years and had a blast each time. Great way to see some top acts and discover new ones as well. Absolutely going again.

I'm there. I've been waiting over 7 years to see Silverchair in Chicago (literally).

I saw Roky Erickson at last year's Intonation Festival and I may make the trip to Lollapalooza primarily to see him again.

Pearl Jam- yay! (awesome live band)
Daft Punk- hopefully they'll have some good new material. Alive 1997 completely convinced me that I need to see them live before I die but that was 10 years ago.
Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals- great live band with only OK albums.
Muse- haven't heard them too much but what I have heard I like.
Iggy & the Stooges- the new one is weak but they're still ferocious live if the reviews are anything to go by. Should show the young'un how it's done.
Modest Mouse- meh, never really liked them.
Interpol- awesome live band with great albums. Hoepfully they'll play at night and have some new material.
My Morning Jacket- after seeing Okonowhateverthefuck, I'd love to see them live, Although their songs sound a little same-y after a while.
Satellite Party- a sop to the founder?
Yeah Yeah Yeahs- great albums and great live.
Snow Patrol- I've heard tney're good live, don't really like the albums though.
the Roots- never cared for live rap.
Patti Smith- blah. Overrated aging "legend" with one (overrated) album, IMO.
Kings of Leon- the new one is their best. They keep getting better, but are they any good live?

Spoon- I love this band live. Huge back catalog of great songs to hit.
Lupe Fiasco- live rap...
TV on the Radio- this could be an interesting show, but the albums are studio creations, aren't they?
Pete Yorn- I liked his first album, since then not so much.
G. Love & Special Sauce- tired frat-boy R+B, IMO.
Paolo Nutini- very irritating album but maybe that's just me.
LCD Soundsystem- YES. Can't wait to see them live on a hot day.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah- OK music, but godammnit THAT VOICE! Most. Irritating. Affectations. Since. Connor. Oberst.
Silverchair- No, please god, no.
Yo La Tengo- I saw them last in about 1991. They were great back then, are the still good? They don't seem to be capable of making a bad album, that's a good sign.
the Hold Steady- Kick ass live band by all aco****s and I loved the last album. Definitely good.
M.I.A.- live rap... sort of. Loved, loved, loved the first album but it can be hard to take in large doses.
Sparklehorse- never really listened to them.
Sean Lennon- blarg, can't stand him.
!!!- This should be a nice n'sweaty show. Not a lot of good material for them to work through but they kick ass live.
Son Volt- one of those bands I know I need to hear but I haven't.
Polyphonic Spree- annoying pseudo-cult thing, but I like some of the music.
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists- tons of great pop songs, how is he live?
Peter Bjorn & John- could be interesting live.
Cansei De Ser Sexy (CSS)- heard of them but haven't heard them. they're ultra-hip, right?
the Rapture- don't really like the albums, but this could work live. I'll take Interpol or !!! any day, though.
the Wailers- how exactly do they fit in here?
Roky Erickson & the Explosives- See Patty Smith comment, I believe. based on what I've heard, I'm almost certainly wrong, though.
Tapes 'n Tapes- liked the album, but not a lot. Any good live?

A great, great line up this year, though, IMO.

Single date tickets went on sale yesterday, for those looking to attend only one day.

That lineup looks great. Too bad in my advancing age that I have lost the desire to be outside in the heat with a sweaty mass of people looking "for a good place under the lighting" for long periods of time.

yeah, they're also playing back to back at the Wireless 02 fest this weekend in London and Leeds.

The Black Keys are a two piece blues band. Not even close to rap.

Because, after Grant Park, any other location just seems...lame ;)

I bought passes before the set times came out. I felt like ripping them to shreds after I saw it.

RIDICULOUS CONFLICTS.
Don't buy into the "it happens at every festival" propaganda. Coachella didn't conflict any of its headliners. Sasquatch didn't even allow any one to play on another stage while their headliners were playing. Lolla is a pile of manure. Organizers are complete clowns.

That list is meh. Way too many acts and not enough good ones, and the headliners are unimpressive. I went to the first one with Jane's Addiction, Living Colour, Siouxsie, NIN, Butthole Surfers, Henry Rollins, Body Count, etc. That was amazing.

I'm easily a part of the same group as you, but The Roots were incredible when I saw them at Woodstock 99. They're a live full band not just a bunch of rappers and a DJ or two.

I have a feeling that the line-up is making snooty record store clerks ejaculate in their pants.

I dunno... I like a few of those acts, but I just hate these festival things that have, like, 200 bands.
