Alanis Morissette covers "My Humps"

I'm not quite sure what to think about this. I can see a mostly comedic intent, but beyond that I'll let others put in their two cents.

I assume this was an April Fools thing. I don't normally like Alanis, but damn if that isn't funny.

Quite funny, and it wouldn't be a bad song if not for the lyrics.

Actually, I think it goes to show what somebody with an actual bit of talent can do with even the most dreadful material.

Assuming it's true then I think Alanis should get off her butt and write some decent tunes again a la "Jagged Little Pill". Her recent offerings have either been below par songs or covers (Crazy)and while she makes a fist of them, damn it she is a good writer if she extracts the digit!

Just about the dumbest song of all time, but a least Alanis sings it with some emotion.

That was pretty terrible. Not Alanis, but actually being able to understand the lyrics. Terrible.

Not sure I understand that last sentence, but let's hope the disintegration of her relationship will kick her in the ass and get her creative again.

Extracting the digit means "pull your finger out" (of your backside) and start doing something. Maybe it's an Australian saying???

It basically means stop being lazy and start working a bit harder!

Thanks, and I take it "making a fist" (of something) is another Australian saying?

I think that may be a British one we stole (we were a convict colony after all) but it means that you did a good job of something where most would have expected failure.

The opposite is a 'cock-up" where people expect success but the result is complete failure.

It all sounds rather pornographic but I don't think it is.

Hmm, i've always liked Alanis' voice and music, but now I'm liking her body. I like the camp effect the cover has. And she looks damn good here, too.

this was too funny! if anyone has seen some of her backstage stuff (on the feast on scraps dvd for example), this totally fits in with her sense of humor.

She did a funny sketch on Leno (I believe) a couple years ago in which she was supposedly moonlighting as a Hooters girl. Maybe someone can find the video and post it on here.

She's obviously doing it as a joke - almost like, "Hey wouldn't it be funny if someone sang a totally silly song, but with the earnestness of someone like Alanis?". Well, now we do have someone doing that, and it's Alanis herself. Like wouldn't it be funny if someone like James Blunt sang something like Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy With It" in his own style?

This song will look more and more ridiculous (if that's even possible) as each year goes by. The "rap" section is probably a sign of the coming rapture. We're talking "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo" or "We Built This City on Rock and Roll" bad...

Ben Folds did it better with Dr. Dre's "Bitches Ain't Shit".

His cover was about his white goofiness. It's irony is the sheer absurdity of Ben Folds busting out his gat and busting caps up in someone's ass.

This is a critique of hip hop. Alanis is calling Fergie a slut.

I think that Outkast definitely produces a more artistically valid, higher-concept hip-hop/funk, but Black Eyed Peas make perfectly adequate dance tracks. I think "My Humps" is really annoying, but I like "Let's Get Retarded."

Hell no. I can't stand that song or that over emotive, whiny pommy git! I like the idea of SOMEONE taking the p.iss out of Will Smith's crap but someone who actually sings with some balls and doesn't drone on and on like Blunt!

I was wrong. It was Jimmy Kimmell's show:

I wasn't condoning Blunt or his shit style of music - I was just using one extreme to represent the other.
