Elvis Costello- Still 19603 songs Just out of curiosity- With all these high item totals, I wonder- what percentage of your song counts do you actually own as opposed to your percentage of "borrowed" titles? With peer-to-peer/torrent downloads, its easier than ever to get access to music. I always feel guilty "borrowing" music this way, but the feeling is short-lived. With approx. 1,800 cds and a couple hundred albums and 45's, I feel justified in occasionally "sampling" songs this way. I usually only get stuff that I already have on vinyl or intend to (and usually do) purchase. When I take into consideration that the total music purchases in my lifetime are probably closer to 5,000 titles (records, tapes and cd's), that pang of guilt nearly disappears completely. Just curious... Incidentally, my owned percentage is approximately 99%- give or take a tenth or two. Jimmy |
I've been a long time CD collector, and only recently moved to digital. I still buy a ton of CDs with a small surplus of MP3s from emusic and amazon and other legit downloads. There are a very small amount of albums I've 'sampled' from friends, family and, er..., peers. But that number is minuscule compared to my legit purchases, and many of those never make it to my Ipod. Easily, less than 1% is of questionable origin for me.

I think to myself "Thank God I never have to road trip with these people." lol Then again, on occasion, I've checked into a recurring name and been pleasantly surprised. It's always about broadening your horizons musically, as far as I see it. I love "my stuff" and always will, more than anything else, but it's always good to find new (to me, anyway) good stuff. That said, I miss Turborobb's lists. lol |
