New message on the website:
EDIT: Apparently, someone is working on the site. A recent picture of Brad was added since earlier.
As you all know by now, BOSTON'S lead singer, Brad Delp, was found dead in his home on Friday, March 9th 2007. Plans for live BOSTON performances this summer have, of course, been cancelled.
My heart goes out to his wonderful fiance Pamela, his two children and other family members, his close friends and band mates, and to the millions of people whose lives were made a little brighter by the sound of his voice. He will be dearly missed.

This really bums me out.
I grew up in the same town as Brad (Danvers, MA). He was about 10 years older than me, but I still remember that he used to play in a basement band with the Minehan brothers down the street from me before joining Boston.
When their first album came out, they had an in-store appearance at the Lechmere in the Liberty Tree Mall, and I was first in line to get autographs. The poster they had people sign said "Better Music Through Science", which I probably still have somewhere. I read later that Tom Scholtz hated that phrase!
Years later when I was working for Epic Records, an older rep was cleaning out his desk and found an old photo of the 14-year-old me at that signing. Too funny!
Brad was always a true gentleman and never had any ego; he was always involved with charity events in the area, helping local artists, and ready to sing for any cause without any fuss and with pure joy. He will be sorely missed.

Delp ... Boston was 'decent' band for me. Just a lot of great Boston bands. The debut was fantastic w/ a nice followup but unfortunately I cannot agree with others on 3rd stage. I really did not like it and felt it was pretty much done at that point. But they were a talented (Smoltz - his Rockman to add) and put out some great music - of course it's a shame.

this just makes me very sad. i saw this a couple of days ago, and i'm still shocked that he's gone. Boston's songs, along with Brad's voice were very much a part of my teenage life and listening to their songs still brings a smile to my face and transports me to a better place. RIP, Brad, you were loved, and you will be missed.

Looks like Dobby's information just might be legit based on the mention of carbon monoxide.

Wow!!! I'm really shocked and even sadder
. Btw, has anyone EVER heard of anyone offing themselves via charcoal grills? I wonder where he got that idea.

I'm just sad that Brad felt that whatever issues he had were too much for him to handle. He had so much to live for - kids, an impending marriage, not to mention a great band. He will be missed.

Here's an update:
ATKINSON, New Hampshire (AP) -- Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston who killed himself last week, left behind a note in which he called himself "a lonely soul," according to police reports released Thursday.
The note was paper-clipped to the neck of Delp's shirt when police found his body at his Atkinson home, on the bathroom floor, his head on a pillow. He had sealed himself inside with two charcoal grills; toxicology tests showed he had committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.
"Mr. Brad Delp. J'ai une ame solitaire. I am a lonely soul," the note read.
Delp joined Boston in the mid-1970s and sang two of its biggest hits, "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time." He was cremated Wednesday, after a private funeral earlier in the week.
His fiancee, Pamela Sullivan, called police March 9 after noticing a dryer vent tube connected to the exhaust pipe of Delp's car. In the garage, police found a note taped to the door leading into the house.
"To whoever finds this I have hopefully committed suicide. Plan B was to asphyxiate myself in my car."
In another note on a door at the top of the stairs, Delp cautioned that there was carbon monoxide inside.
"I take complete and sole responsibility for my present situation. I have lost my desire to live," he wrote. The note also included instructions on how to contact his fiancee: "Unfortunately she is totally unaware of what I have done."
Police later found four sealed letters in an office addressed to Sullivan, his children, their mother, Micki Delp, and another couple whose identity was not disclosed. Police Lt. William Baldwin said police gave the letters to family members without reading them.
Sullivan told police that Delp "had been depressed for some time, feeling emotional (and) bad about himself," according to the reports.
He had planned to marry Sullivan this summer during a break in a tour with Boston. A lifelong Beatles fan, Delp also played with the tribute band Beatle Juice.

This act was very well thought out and planned, not spur of the moment at all.

This is one of the few suicides I have heard about, where I felt sad for the person committing the act. It also has nothing to do with who he was. It seemed well thought out, and not just a desperate grab at attention.

In honor of the late great Brad Delp, I am posting this link to a Boston show recorded at Long Beach CA 1977 at Wolfgangs vault. Most of the performances are different I believe from the KBFH recording and includes 3 songs that weren't included in that broadcast: Television Politician, Don't Be Afraid, and an unnamed blues tune. Enjoy fellow Boston fans!
