Geddy on ESPNNEWS:

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dOCe0isbszs"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dOCe0isbszs" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

That would be cool as shit if he reported from different stadiums during their tour.

Apparently Malignant Narcissism has been leaked, I can't find the fucking thing but it is out there.

Please don't link any leaked songs from the new album in this thread.

In other news, there is a strong rumor that Rush will be playing Madison Square Garden sometime in September.

So, got tickets yesterday for the Hollywood Bowl. Pretty good seats. Going with a friend from work. We're going to take the shuttle from the LA Zoo parking lot so we don't have to deal with the nightmarish traffic.

I will just be getting back from a 3 week Mediterranean cruise and this will be my first Rush concert since 1985. I learned most of my drumming skills from Neil Peart.

Well, I ordered my 4 tix for 2 shows here in LA through the AMEX pre-sale at Ticket-Rape-ster. After I hung up and sat in the corner gently sobbing and rocking back and forth.

RUSH = $$$$$$$

But they are much cheaper than The Police, The Who and Paul McCartney... think if it that way.

Instead of the wise crack why not enlighten a fellow Rush fan?

It's from the "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" movie, apparently. NP supplied some drum tracks for a character in that movie playing "the drum solo of life".

I am about to start listening to the new album. I'll give it a couple of spins and post my thoughts.

I am leaving in a few minutes so I don't have time to write much, but after one time through, I love this album. I think it is their best since Power Windows. They have decided to go back to being Rush and not a metal band as they attempted to be on Vapor Trails, which I thought was total crap for the most part. I wasn't very positive about this one upon Far Cry, which I think is the least song on the album.

Far Cry is an example of some of the things I have not liked about quite a few Rush songs on the last few albums: Geddy singing too high and being too emotive with his singing and the funky bass lines (like on Roll The Bones, Stick It Out, Virtuality, which I do not like).

The album is a lot more mid-tempo and acoustic-based than VT and the songwriting is many times better. The longest of the instrumentals is their best instrumental since YYZ and La Villa. The shorter ones are good also. One is just acoustic guitar. They use keyboards very well on Snakes And Arrows as well.

I got the album today as well and it is a lot more mellow then I expected, I'll write up a longer report when I get to listen to it some more.

I burned this CD for my buddy, who is a HUGE Rush fan, on Friday night and he gave it back to me today. Said, "No thanks."

I listened to it and didn't think it was bad, but I don't know a lot about Rush other than their mainstream radio stuff.

I ordered two tickets for the Verizon Wireless Ampitheater show (all these venues have been named after so many companies I don't even remember what venue that is anymore), and the tickets were only $60 each, but the ticketmaster charges brought the two tickets to almost $200. Ridiculous. Still, the show will be great.

Edit: Okay, I see it's Irvine Meadows. I think the other venue was the Hollywood Bowl, and I really hate the Hollywood Bowl, so I opted to drive to Irvine instead.

They have to be the least mainstream radio played rock band in the history of rock.

Yeah, I've got tickets to the Hollywood Bowl, but I live pretty close by. Taking the shuttle from the LA Zoo parking lot, so I won't have to worry about parking.

You aren't aware that there are several Rush songs that are played heavily on classic rock stations?

And they're no less mainstream than several other progressive rock bands that get played on classic rock radio.

Yeah I'll be shuttlin' it from Torrance like I did last time they played the Bowl and when I saw Bjork. I'm not a huge Hollywood Bowl fan but the shuttle service makes it really cool.

I usually drive when I go to shows with my buddy so although Irvine is right down the 405 from me I'll pick him up in East LA and head down from there.

Here in LA we have no "real" rock stations. KLOS is almost country and KROQ plays pop/Top 40 rock and that's it. KLOS will play a new RUSH song a couple times a week for a few months around the release then they'll go back to only playing "Closer to the Heart" and that's about it.

God I miss KNAC on the radio.

Anyway, I have noticed while reading Radio trade mags that list playslists from other parts of the country that RUSH and other "never played on LA Radio" bands get a lot more airtime.
