Nice find. I was expecting some minor line/music changes and the first half is pretty much that. The second half had completely different lyrics in parts as well as music. Nice surprise.

It is also 3 minutes shy of the 23 minute official release. Hard to tell what was cut/added.

I wonder how the version on the Official Images & Words Demos disc sounds compared to the live cut you posted.

There's a heck of a gap between Cleveland and Boston for northeast shows, but I refuse to get my hopes up.

Well they never come here so I'm used to driving. :) Seen 'em 4 or 5 times though. I think the last was the Queensryche double bill in 04.

*edit - nice. Just noticed there are 9 ants on this one, I would assume, representing their 9th studio album. The non-SE has 10 ants though. :hscratch: I do like this cover A LOT more. Love the upside down lights.

Mordred 04-16-07 12:34 PM

Awesome cover. I'll definitely be picking up the Special Edition.

darkside 04-16-07 12:47 PM

I will be grabbing the SE of this one. Sounds awesome.

Agreed! If there is a band that can do justice to the special edition 5.1 format, it's DT. Can you imagine what they'll do when they decide to remaster the backcatalog?

Michael Corvin 04-30-07 08:04 AM

CDUniverse now has this up for pre-order:

Regular Edition: $15.18
Special Edition: $18.38

$3.20 difference? Doesn't make much sense to even consider the regular edition.

I've only listened to it once so far and the jury's still out. From the first notes, however, you instantly KNOW it's DT.

Michael Corvin 04-30-07 09:51 AM

Same here. On first listen the instrumental parts are far superior to the vocals... and I'm a HUGE LaBrie fan. They just didn't fit the tone of the song for me, but again, this is based of one listen.

I also found it the other way.

I received the same e-mail and jumped on it. Two days later, another e-mail stating they were sold out. I hope the 2 day gap is a good sign.

What I've heard, I love. I was able to get a 15th row ticket for their date in Grand Prairie, TX. Add The Police and Rush (possibly Psychedelic Furs/ABC/The Fixx and Weird Al), this will be a great summer for concerts for me. And I'm going to every one by myself (comment for another thread).

das Monkey 05-11-07 11:22 PM

I can't wait to see them in Atlanta. Oh wait -- they never come here.

das

Snowmaker 06-05-07 07:41 AM

Anyone find the Special Edition anywhere? If so, how much?

Wal-Mart and Target only had the regular version this morning. Target had it for $11.98.

I agree, vocals are the weak link. I talked about this with a buddy at work, who is superfan #1. I think that Geoff Tate would be an awesome guy to do vocals for them. While not a huge fan (Portnoy can get a little TOO double bass happy for my taste) this is a really good CD. I have tix to see them when they roll into Houston, and about a week later I'll be at the Rush concert!!

Michael Corvin 06-05-07 08:12 AM

I just meant the vocals on that song, "Constant Motion." And that only after one listen. I have since warmed to him on that track.

I love LaBrie though.

Still waiting for my SE to show up from FYE.

SmackDaddy 06-05-07 11:20 AM

Well, his vocals don't really seem to fit in on most of this CD. His voice seems really thin amidst some of the heavier stuff.
