Tarantula single artwork.

Includes 'Death from Above'.
Has anybody heard the various bonus cuts. Which version (Best Buy, Target?) is the one to buy?

I feel bad for saying this, as they are my favorite band. But the new album pretty much sucks. There isn't really anything memorable on the thing, besides Tarantula. Overall it sounds like throwaways from Zero EP (or single if you prefer). The basic production sounds like a cleaned up version of Machina 2 with more soaring guitar solos. The lyrics admittingly aren't what they used to be; but I'm sure this is a delibarate change. I hoping this grows on me and that I just had unrealistic expectations, but after the solo album & this Billy is starting to worry me.

Unfortunately, you kind of have to accept the fact that Billy writes pretty decent songs but is horrible with production. The fact that he is credited with producing almost every track is telling. It would be so nice if someone could force him to work with a good producer who wouldn't agree with him on things.
I haven't listened to the album that much yet, but from the live concerts and bootlegs and what I've heard there's only a couple of really bad tracks (Neverlost is brutal) while there are several pretty good tracks.
The sad part is at these residency concerts he's playing a lot of Machina songs that I completely hate on the Machina era boots and they sound pretty damn good now. Blue Skies Bring Tears and Glass and the Ghost Children have gone from songs I would avoid at all costs to being pretty cool. Even the Adore songs are sounding better. Annie-Dog and Shame are way better now than on the Adore tour.
Anyway, different strokes for different folks, but Billy's never going to make a spiritual successor to Siamese Dream or Mellon Collie because he's committed to trying to make a new sound. I personally think he could do better, but this is much better than the electronica. At least you can't say he's putting the same CD out time and time again. He takes some chances even when the songs are relatively safe.
I would also argue that getting off drugs has probably hurt him creatively to some extent. The plus side is that the live shows have never been better, he's in the best mood I've ever seen, and he seems to really be having fun.
The new CD love it or hate it is just one piece of the puzzle.
Sorry for rambling! If I were still in school I would have made an outline first

And I think that is really the problem that he is gonna face as long as the Smashing Pumpkins are around. Those albums are really an integral part of many of his fans teenage / young adult years. And I have nothing but respect for him creating new sounds and not repeating himself, but if doing this alienates your fanbase or decreases the quality of your musicianship / song writing it's not worth the journey. I understand that it would be simple for him to go back and create that era's sound again, "Untitled" is proof of this, but at a certain point he's gotta figure that he's done enough experimenting & needs do the album most of his fanbase wants. Because this certainly isn't it & will most definitley be a commercial flop.

Considering the unscheduled days between Boston and Philly, and Philly and Memphis, I'm sure they will have at least 2 NYC dates.
I would love a small club show after the Letterman appearances, that would be great.

It's the same artwork, just a different color. I believe Amazon has a different color as well. There is red, green, yellow, and purple available at different retailers.

All three bonus tracks have now leaked.
The Target exclusive, Zeitgeist, is a nice folky acoustic song that ties the album up nicely.
The Best Buy exclusive, Death From Above, is a fun song that is a little more electronic.
The iTunes exclusive, Stellar, is a trippy song that sounds like a Machina outtake.
I think Zeitgeist and DFA are both really good. If you are only getting 1, I would get the Target version probably. Then you could pick up the Tarantula single to get DFA if you wanted.
I will probably end up burning a version with all 3 mixed in. They're good songs.
01. Doomsday Clock
02. 7 Shades of Black
03. Bleeding the Orchid
04. That's the Way (My Love Is)
05. Tarantula
06. Starz
07. United States
08. Neverlost
09. Death From Above (positioned here on the Best Buy album)
10. Bring the Light
11. (Come On) Let's Go!
12. For God and Country
13. Stellar (positioned here on the iTunes album)
14. Pomp and Circumstances
15. Zeitgeist (positioned here on the Target album)

Guess what, SP is Billy Corgan. It's not even debatable. He wrote every song pre-Gish, Gish, SD. There is ONE non-BC song on MCIS, and that disc has 30 songs. Every song on Adore, every song on Machina. He recorded practically every guitar and bass track on all the albums. Wrote and sang all the lyrics. If he could play drums, he probably would have done it.
I don't give two squirts of piss whether you buy the album or not, but to think that James and D'arcy are anything more than hired stage hands is an uninformed, wrong opinion. Feel free to miss out on a great Pumpkins record, because I really doubt you ever a true fan in the first place.
