So was disco.

Not quite as drastic, but Stevie Wonder?

I know this doesn't necessarily qualify as never having been on the radio but one of my favorites by Elton John (among others) has always been Tiny Dancer. Love that song... -kd5-

Another vote for Indian Sunset. Beautiful song.

I believe Elton turned to the Schlock Side when he parted ways with Bernie Taupin for a good part of the 80's. Though they did eventually reconnect, they never could rekindle the magic they had together in the 70's. My 2 cents.

This actually happens all the time, but in terms of Elton John's star quality I'd say only Rod Stewart compares. Rod Stewart's first five solo albums are undeniable classics by any standard but all people remember is "Do ya Think I'm Sexy".

not Elton John, but I wanted to share my all time favorite Van Morrison song which is not considered one of his most popular

Disagree. Crocodile Rock, Honky Cat, Philadelphia Freedom, Bitch Is Back : All huge hits, all Taupin compositions and all pretty much awful.

Thanks to this thread bump, I realized that 4 of the SACD's of his first 5 albums are still surprisingly available from Amazon (no Goodbye Yellow Brick Road though). Just received Tumbleweed Connection today & holy Hell does this thing have fantastic sound quality.

SACD really needs a comeback.

I don't think any of those songs are awful. In fact they're classic pop songs. Especially Honky Cat which is essential Elton piano boogie.

Now "Don't go breaking my heart"... that's awful.

This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore
Never heard it on the radio, but saw the video several times on MTV/VH1 (probably thanks to Timberlake as Elton)

Yeah I'm not a big Justin Timberlake fan but he does a great job playing Elton in the 70s in that video. Only flaw is that Elton was never the tallest guy in the room. Good song too.

Re: GOOD Elton John songs that were NEVER on the radio

Since this thread changed from never on the radio to rarely on the radio I'll repost Feel Like a Bullet.
I think it was a b-side on a .45 but I can't remember what the other side was.
One of the first records I owned was Elton John's Greatest hits.

Edit: it was, for Grow Some Funk of your Own. That's a good song and was why I bought the .45 in the first place and then discovered "Bullet".

Both of those songs are on his "Rock of the Westies" album - lots of good songs on that one. My parents bought it for me back when it came out for my 11th birthday.
