oddly I love both albums... the debut a tad bit more than their second one.

I thought the new EP from Boards of Canada - 'Trans Canada Highway' was a disappointment, a couple of good songs, the rest... meh, forgettable.

By far, it has to be: Feist - Open Season. Her first two albums were great. Open Season, with the exception of 2 or 3 songs is composed of remixes of a few of her older songs.

I kind of agree, come to think of it, I not sure what made it a good album, none of the songs seemed remotely remarkable or memorable IMO...

Nope, you can count me among those not really impresed by it, either. It's ok, to me, but that's about it. Not swayed one way or the other by it.

On the other hand, this was the #1 album for one of my friends. He defends it with the "either you get it, or you don't" argument, and the fact that he saw the band twice this year, and they were "fanatstic" both times.

I also didn't like this album the first few times I listened to it. It's definitely a grower, though. I kept forgetting to take it out of my CD changer in my car and now it's one of my favorites. One of the few benefits of having the one car on the planet you can't plug an iPod into.

I guess the main reason why, is because it's not at all what I was expecting from them. I'm all for bands broadening their horizons and showing some growth album to album. However, when you do a complete 180%, especially on your second album out - well maybe it tends to throw your audience a bit, and not in a good way. I felt like I'd ordered a pepperoni pizza, but got mushroom instead.

I good comparison could be made with the differences between the first and latest Killers album. A lot of folks are saying they don't like Sam's Town because of the changes in style. But at least with The Killers, I can still recognize it's them. With The Stills, however, the change is dramatic and much more drastic. Without Feathers doesn't even sound like it's been made by the same band as Logic Will Break Your Heart. It's truly that different.

Never did find out why, exactly, they deceided to do what they did with the change in musical direction - and maybe if I knew the whole story, it would change my mind about the album a bit. And I tried liking the album, I really did - but I've hardly given it a spin in months.

I still don't get how people were so disappointed in this album. It ended up being my favorite of the year. I guess I had the same 'Wow, this sounds realllly different' reaction when I first picked it up, but after repeated listens, it really grew on me a lot. I actually enjoy it quite a bit more than Logic now. It might have helped that I saw them live early in the year and hearing them play the new and old stuff side by side did a lot to bring out the similarities.

As for the reason for the shift in styles, I know that their guitarist left in the space between albums. If I recall correctly, their drummer took over lead guitar and a drummer from a band that had been touring with them stepped in. I'm sure that played a significant role in the evolution of their sound.

Tool - 10,000 Days

A couple of good songs. The rest were just really long songs that droned on and on, even for Tool. I definately should have listened to someone else's disc before thinking of buying my own.

DJ Shadow - The Outsider

wtf...this album just turned out to be sub par hip hop songs..there are a few outside that vein, but they don't really go anywhere...expected a lot more from Shadow.

That's a good choice. I don't get what they were trying to do.

i'm a huge fan of out there weirdness but I couldn't get through a full listen of this. Didn't care for their first album either, but after hearing everyone rave about this I check it out. Really not my thing at all. And they were awful at coachella.

Yes, it is. Over-hyped? Yes. Disappointing? Not in the least.
