Rank'em as You Hear Them (2007)

Thanks to everyone who particpated in last year's thread. You still have until December 31st, 2006 to post/update that thread before I work up the final tally in early January.

2007 Rank'em as You Hear Them Thread

The rules are simple:

This thread is for ranking albums that are released in 2007 in the United States. This does not include reissues or albums that you have purchased/heard for the first time this year but were released in prior years.

Keep your list in one post (edit!) and keep them in some sort of order (see the second post for my system).

At the end of the year I will compile a list of the top albums as voted by MusicTalk.

Note: Please don't use a "placeholder" post if you don't actually plan on updating your list.
You know who you are!

Hopefully we can introduce each other to some more good music this year!

Thanks!

This is basically a "rank'em as I buy them" thread, since I'm only ranking the CD's that I actually buy in 2007. On a scale of 1-10, 10 of coarse being the best (not that anyone will ever actually read this).

Wilco - Sky Blue Sky = 9.5/10

Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - Living with the Living8.5/10

The Blow - Poor Aim: Love Songs = 8/10

House of Fools - Live & Learn
- 7.5/10

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible = 7.5/10

The Fratellis - Costello Music = 7.5/10

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga GA = 7.5/10

The New Pornographers - Challengers = 7.5/10

Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank = 7/10

Rogue Wave - Asleep at Heaven's Gate = 7/10

The Twilight Sad -Fourteen Autumns Fifteen Winters = 7/10

The Shins - Wincing the Night Away = 7/10

Clutch - From Beale Street To Oblivion = 6/10

LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver - 5/10

[b]Johnathan Rice - Further North - 5/10

The Noisettes - What's the Time Mr. Wolf = 5/10

Bright Eyes - Four Winds 5/10

[b]Rilo Kiley - Under The Blacklight = 5/10 (biggest let-down of 2007)

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Some Loud Thunder = 5/10

She Wants Revenge - This is Forever = 4/10

Bloc Party- Weekend in the City = 3/10

The Dictators: "Everyday Is Saturday"-- Yeah, this is a compilation of demos, and I wasn't expecting much when I ordered it, but upon listening to it, I like the demos better than the originals!!! They're rawer, louder, & better.
Frankenstein 3000: "Welcome To Planet Ohmega"-- Recognize many of the songs from various compilations, but they're rerecorded here, sounding most excellent! Superb cover of the Car's "Bye Bye Love" on here too!

The Queers: "Munki Brain" -- The Queers doing what they do best, which is writing Beach Boys crossed with the Ramones music. This album is heavier on the Beach Boys sides of things, and is just as good as anything else they have released (except for "Love Songs For the Retarded" which is a classic).
Frankenstein 3000: "Lost In Space"-- Compilation of a ton of unreleased older tracks that was originally just pressed for the band, but they decided to press an extra 25 copies for the public. Excellent songwriting, a few covers. Those that aren't covers sound like they should be covers. Super loud guitars, great raspy vocals. Can't wait for their new album later this year!!!

The Wildhearts: "The Wildhearts"-- Tons of riffs, melody, and long songs. Was expecting a little more, though. Not as catchy/poppy as other recent stuff they've done. May rank this higher with time.
Onslaught: "Killing Peace"-- Like Destruction, it's been years since I've listened to anything from this band. For some reason, this holds up better.
Fu Manchu: "We Must Obey"-- Great stoner rock.
The Woggles: "Rock And Roll Backlash"-- Great garage rock.
The Devilrock Four: "First In Line"-- Excellent AC/DC type hard rockin' stuff here. "Dancefloor" is hands down the song of the year. Catchy choruses, loud guitars, what more could you want?

Machine Head: "The Blackening-- not bad.
Chimaira: "Resurrection-- didn't live up to the hype, but not bad.
Hammerlock: "Forgotten Range" -- this hard punkin' band's album is a little bit more country than what I'm used to. May rank higher after some more listens.
Ginger: "Yoni" -- kind of disappointing album for Ginger, but still miles above anything else in its genre. This is loud pop. Better than VDC, but not as good as "A Break In The Weather". Anxiously awaiting the new Wildhearts album though.

Destruction: "Thrash Anthems" -- newly recorded versions of old "classics". First time hearing this band in some years. Didn't hold up all that well.

It's hard to keep up as the listings and number of participants grow, but I fell into a "similar taste" rhythm with several other posters last time around and made a point to check their rankings now and then for things I might've missed listening to. Plus, hey, it's fun to make lists!

Rilo Kiley - Under The Blacklight
Josh Rouse - Country Mouse City House

EXTRA Honorable mention for two that should have made my list last year (2006), but I didn't end up getting them 'til early 2007...

The Kooks - Inside In Inside Out
Pilot Speed - Into The West

...I listened to and loved these two just as much, if not more than almost anything else in my Top 10 for this year. It's a shame they couldn't have been included for this year.
