the band AMERICA
America is a rock group from the 70's and early 80's that had some real strong hit singles, but I'm wondering if their albums hold some "hidden treasures" that were overlooked due to the attention of one smash hit.
Their albums and hits: America /No.1 for five weeks in 1972 -A horse With No Name #1 single for five weeks --I Need You #9 single This album also has the song Sandman which I heard only because it was on their greatest hits compilation. Sandman is a good, "non-hit single" song, and that's what leads me to wonder what other songs might be really good. Homecoming /No.9 in 1972 -Ventura Highway #8 single Holiday /No.3 in 1974 -Tin Man #4 single --Lonely People #5 single Hearts /No.4 in 1975 -Sister Golden Hair #1 for one week In 1982, America scored their final Top 10 single with You Can Do Magic. Are there any hidden treasures on their albums, other than their very strong hits, or are the hits the only good songs on their albums, with the rest simply filler? |
The only main album I ever bought/heard was Hideaway and except for a song called "Amber Cascades" sucked. All the songs on the greatest hits cd were singles, just didn't make the top ten. In fact there was a time you couldn't go an hour without hearing "Sandman" on the radio for several weeks.
