This is probably overly generalized, but I would say vinyl as a noun is usually more general. "I collect vinyl." "I bought some vinyl at the record shop today." "I prefer the sound you get on vinyl." But when you want to get more specific, it should be used as an adjective. "I bought a couple of vinyl records today." "The store has a section for new vinyl releases."

Well, anyone with a general understanding of the English language would realize you wouldn't say that, either. One would just say, correctly, "I went out and bought some vinyl". That simple, my friend. Again, you're adding a plural in a case that doesn't need it.

I'm sure it doesn't matter too much anyway, since I don't know anyone outside of the internet who would touch a record anyway. Plus, I was high as fuck when I was posting yesterday, so that doesn't help.
The last two sentences explain a lot. Just trying to be helpful, but knock yourself out with the ignorance if that's your choice - which it obviously seems to be. Tell you what. I'll promise never to correct you again, and you can go right on looking like a fool who doesn't know any better.

Jeez, you kids these days. And while you're at it, get off my lawn.

Yes, while I was trying not to be too much of a dick, he was being one intentionally.
