Choose your tracks for a Weezer's Greatest Hits

Since there's no greatest hits CD collection presently for the band Weezer, what songs would you pick to be there?

Myself, I've created my own from the five albums I have, and while I have left off some obviously great songs (Say It Ain't So, for example) and supposed hit singles (Hash Pipe, for example), I have put together the songs that a) I haven't played to death yet, and b) songs that I'm just beginning to enjoy. I managed to fit 24 songs on a 79 minute CD-R:

01: Tired of Sex
02: Photograph
03: Buddy Holly
04: Island In the Sun
05: No Other One
06: Surf Wax America
07: Mikel and Carli
08: Why Bother
09: Falling For You
10: Simple Pages
11: Knock Down
12: Smile
13: Keep Fishing
14: Pardon Me
15: Beverly Hills
16: Lullaby for Wayne
17: The Good Life
18: El Scorcho
19: Pink Triangle
20: Butterfly
21: In The Garage
22: December
23: Possibilities
24: Perfect Situation

Since 24 songs was the limit for space, I couldn't add anymore. Of course, if I could have, I would have put in more tracks from "Blue."

Hmmmm. I can only think of ten songs I would want on there so I guess mine would be pretty simple:

1. My Name Is Jonas
2. No One Else
3. The World Has Turned and Left Me Here
4. Buddy Holly
5. Undone -- The Sweater Song
6. Surf Wax America
7. Say It Ain't So
8. In the Garage
9. Holiday
10. Only in Dreams

That's what she said.

Oh, and maybe I would add Jamie, Suzanne, and Perfect situation as bonus tracks.

Here's my greatest hits:

I'd just have The Blue Album and Pinkerton back to back. I think they would both fit on 1 80 minute CD. I love both of those albums, but only a select few songs off the other albums.

You can fit both Blue and Pinkerton onto a single disc.

Green and Maladroit will fit on a single disc, too. I once burned all four onto two discs for a friend.

Now that Blue has a Deluxe Edition with "Dusty Gems and Raw Nuggets" on it it sorta throws it all out of whack as it does require a second disc (the second disc of bonus tracks is actually longer than any of their proper studio albums).

In any case, I'm not a fan of the later stuff. I'm constantly running out of space on my 20g iPod and just last night I axed Green, "Maladroit" and "Make Believe", leaving only Blue, "Pinkerton" and "Dusty Gems & Raw Nuggets".

Any "best of" I'd make would have to include "Across the Sea" and "Only in Dreams".

You'd cost yourself two additional song by putting on "only in dreams" :D

Well then, you made a "best of" -- not a "greatest hits"

What this person said. Everything after Pinkerton is pretty much shit/phoned in.

Only in Dreams
My Name is Jonas
Buddy Holly
Undone
Across the Sea
Falling for You
Pink Triangle
Butterfly
Hash Pipe
Island in the Sun
Dope Nose
Slob
Death and Destruction

10 tracks, more of a "personal favorites" than "greatest hits":
My Name is Jonas
In The Garage
No One Else
Tired of Sex
Across the Sea (seriously creepy, but probably my favorite Weezer song)
The Good Life
Pink Triangle
Photograph
Simple Pages
Perfect Situation

For me it would basically just be a combination of the Blue Album and Pinkerton with Jamie thrown in there. I miss good Weezer, but on the plus side, I think Rooney sounds like good Weezer.

DRG 11-13-06 04:28 PM

My Weezer mix cd that's currently in my car has:

Buddy Holly
Say It Ain't So
Friends of P (From Matt Sharp's side project The Rentals, I know it's cheating but I felt it fits in with the early period Weezer very well)
Susanne
You Won't Get with Me Tonight
I Just Threw out the Love of My Dreams
Why Bother?
The Good Life
El Scorcho
You Gave Your Love To Me Softly (Angus Version)
Hash Pipe
Island in the Sun
Photograph
Living Without You
O Girl
Dope Nose
Keep Fishin'
Possibilities
Mo' Beats
Beverly Hills
Perfect Situation
This Is Such a Pity

I might have missed a track or two and probably have the order wrong.

Is there a studio version of Jamie, or are there only the two versions (live & acoustic) found on the bonus disc of the Blue album?

Buttmunker 11-14-06 07:30 PM

I heard a Weezer song called Longtime Serenade, but I don't see it listed on any album or any maxi-single. Anyone else heard it and know anything about it?

I think you're thinking of "Longtime Sunshine." It was a Pinkerton demo.

johnbook 11-14-06 11:21 PM

As long as..

Hash Pipe
Buddy Holly
Beverly Hills

are on it i'll buy it.

Yup, on the DGC rarities vol. 1 CD. Good CD, and cheaply found used.

deadlax 11-15-06 08:12 AM

I'm surprised no one on here likes Love Explosion. I think it's their best song since Pinkerton and an awesome disc closer.

I think it's an awesome song (and love the way the drums come in), but its chorus is a little too close to "The Loco-Motion". Also, "December" closes out Maladroit.

Nevi 11-15-06 06:57 PM

I only have their first and their most recent CD so my idea of a greatest hits is limited but here goes:

1. Buddy Holly
2. Undone
3. Say It Ain't So
4. Beverly Hills
5. We Are All On Drugs
6. Perfect Situation

Those are the only singles I'm aware of but I'd also include This Is Such A Pity since it's a good song as well.

No love for "Slave" off of Maladroit?
