Windows Media player question

I'm sorry that this question is so simple but I have not been able to find out the answer. I have a bunch of mp3's, some downloaded and some ripped from CDs. I want to put them on my mp3 player, which I have no problem doing... connect it and then drag and drop.

But I also want to rename them all since they are labeled inconsistently... like begging with the song title, or album title, or 01 and then 02, etc. I've read about ID tags so that any mp3 player can sort them and view them the same way... because I plan on getting a mp3 music player cell phone soon and want them all organized.

I think I have WM Player 10 and have seached and can't find it. What process do I go through to label all of these? Also, do I want to rename all my files before going through the ID tag process? Any help is appreciated for someone who used to be on the leading edge of technology and now finds himself way behind!

Also, if this should be in the Technology forum, please let me know and I will post there and delete this post.

I don't believe WMP has the function to rename file ID tags. But if it does, please someone tell us how.
