Blowoff (Bob Mould + Richard Morel) album available

Just received the self-titled Blowoff cd in the mail. Really loving it. If you like the recent solo stuff Bob Mould has been doing (Body of Song is fantastic for anyone that hasn't checked it out), you probably will enjoy this. It seems pretty split between dancey club tracks and more traditionally Mould-like rock songs. I think its currently only available through mail order but will be out for retail eventually, according to Mould's blog.

Yikes! Mould doing "dancey club tracks"?!??!? I guess he's really out of the closet now! Is it as bad as it sounds?

Still really bummed that I missed him last tour because I had the flu.

Hmm...can't say I'm too excited about this one. Body Of Song was okay, but Modulate was a sick joke. And as much as I love The Last Dog & Pony Show, I still to this day skip "Megamanic."

Mould has been doing dance tracks for a few years now. He got tired of rock and decided to change directions radically. Sad for what I feel is one of the more comercially underappreciated artists of his era. I was a huge fan of his early Husker Du, solo and Sugar career but I'm not into dance music at all. Especially from a white middle aged former punk rocker.

I haven't heard the songs he's done that are dancey, but from a fan who has all of his Husker Du, Sugar and 2/3 solo material I would say, "Bring on the dance!". I like when an artist who's been doing the same thing tries to shake it up a bit (Paul Kelly did the same trick as Professor Ratbaggy and really surprised me).
