Makes sense that first albums are often the best.

The first album is the culmination of years of playing clubs and small gigs, making demos, etc. There may be 5 or 10 years of work between forming thr band and releasing the album... all that time inbetween is perfecting their first set. This often holds topics that the lyricists have wanted to tackle their whole lives and have now spilled into public song.

The second album? Whipped up in a year between tours.

I think Blink-182's last album was their best, and by far most mature.

Cool, I'll keep an eye out for it. And on the subject, one of my 3 or 4 favorite songs of all time:

I'd have to add the first album of:

Belly

and while we're there, throw in:

Tanya Donelly's first solo album as well.

For what it's worth, I prefer "I Don't Want to Grow Up" over "All" and "Lucifuge" over "Danzig 1".......as do most of my friends.

The Pretenders first was the best. Same w/the Inspiral Carpets first full cd-Life. The Rezillos. Material Issue.

Also agree with the Dead Kennedys, the Cars, Elastica, the Stray Cats, the Violent Femmes, the Sex Pistols and the La's.

Almost w/Joe Jackson as I have a soft spot for the second. The same goes w/the Talking Heads.

More to come...

as promised

First albums:

B52s
Blake Babies
Devo (tough call)
Falling Joys
Frazier Chorus
Gang of Four
Judybats

Push Kings
Liz Phair Posies
Pursuit of Happiness
Ramones (well any of the first four are the same)
Revillos
Romantics
Rutles
Space
Supergrass
They Might Be Giants
Ultra Vivid Scene
Voice of the Beehive
Brian Wilson
