Very sad. What a complete waste. He had so much talent.
I've seen that clip many times (Are You Lonesome Tonight) and even though he was strung out.. blabbing on, when he started to sing at the end.. pure magic. The man could sing, no doubt about that. :(

That's one of the worst Elvis impersonators I've seen. Who started this whole Elvis look any way?

Gunshy 09-30-06 12:47 PM

WTF? That's Elvis, the pelvis? :(

Never really a fan of his talent, but always thought it was sad that he obviously couldn't handle his success.

He did introduce me to one of the greatest sandwiches known to man.....fried peanutbutter and banana sandwiches. SOOOOOOO good. One of my favorite local bars in B'more celebrate Elvis' b-day and death...and makes them all day on those days.

Very sad to see him deteriorate like that.

That's a chunky face. I voted for the thin Elvis!

:( Tell me about it. I'm a huge Elvis fan and it breaks my heart to see him in the shape he's in before he died.

I often wonder why some of his "so called friends" didn't try to tell him or at least try and get him some help.

Those idiots were clapping and he couldn't make it through one of his oldest songs. Although today's media is overly intrusive, things like that would have been splashed all over the tabloids and been the topic of talk shows. People who care about their reputation tend to change it from pressure from their public. By the time his problems hit the public from a book by his bodyguards, he was practically dead already.

What's more amazing is to look back to just 9 years earlier and see the top shape he was in for his 1968 Comeback Concert. It's mindblowing to see how quickly he changed.

Growing up in Memphis, my parents saw him around town quite a bit. A friend of mine's older brother worked at a local theater that Elvis used to rent out so he and his friends could hang out and watch movies all night. One time, Eric Clapton showed up with him and he got to shoot the shit with Slowhand and the King. Pretty damn cool.
