Butchering the Beatles
Quite a wide array of metal/hard Rock musicians involved....
On October 24, 2006, Restless Records will release "Butchering The Beatles" — featuring the biggest, the baddest, the heaviest all-star line-up ever assembled to honor what is arguably the greatest band ever — THE BEATLES. All-in-all, over 50 internationally known recording artists bring their unique bone-crushing slant to these remarkable songs. Produced by Grammy award-winning producer/guitarist Bob Kulick and ace engineer Brett Chassen, "Butchering The Beatles" features 12 new, ass-kicking versions of THE BEATLES' chart-topping hits, including "Hey Jude", "I Feel Fine" and "Day Tripper", plus the more esoteric "Hey Bulldog", barked out by the legendary Alice Cooper and "Tomorrow Never Knows", uniquely interpreted by the iconic Billy Idol, alongside classic concept songs like "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "Magical Mystery Tour". When asked by Guitar Player magazine what possessed him to go all metal on THE BEATLES, Bob Kulick stated that, "BEATLES songs are the Holy Grail. They're the best rock songs ever written. These new recordings are totally faithful, yet completely different. Billy Gibbons singing 'Revolution' or (MOTÖRHEAD frontman) Lemmy singing 'Back In The USSR' are not exactly Paul McCartney or John Lennon. And of course, the guitar solo sections were lengthened to accommodate all the artists' solo styles." "Butchering The Beatles" track listing: 01. A lot of big names but some band's songs just aren't meant to be metaled up. The Beatles are one of them.

Check out Doctor's Mob version of "She Said, She Said" or Overwhelming Colorfast's version too. Das Damen did a smokin' version of "Magical Mystery Tour" too. Frankenstein 3000 does "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Good Morning, Good Morning" too. I'm looking forward to this. |
I've never heard those, but I've heard metaled up versions of other stuff and 99% of the time it just sounds silly.
|
Although I appreciate the sentiment of this metal nod to The Beatles I don't think I could bear to hear it.
|
I'm over tribute albums.
|
i think soundgarden sang "come together." i liked it :)

And I have heard numerous Beatles covers in my life, some good, some bad. I think a lot has to do with how the covering artist was trained/influenced in their early days. |
Ted Nugent did a decent version of "I Want To Tell You", though I think he messed up a verse somehow (can't recall at this juncture, LOL).
|
Must. Get. This.
Other metal/hard rock bands who have covered Beatles tracks include Motley Crue (Helter Skelter), Aerosmith (Come Together), Realm (Eleanor Rigby), and Helloween (All My Loving). |

As long as they don't do any rap-hip hop, gangsta sample mix I'm o.k. with it.

A sample of the Helloween cover of "All My Loving" can be heard here: http://www.towerrecords.com/product....tist=Helloween
It's on an album of cover songs. "All My Loving" is actually pretty good. And their covers of Bowie's "Space Oddity" and Faith No More's "From Out of Nowhere" are really spot-on. And their cover of ABBA's "Lay All Your Love on Me" needs to be heard to be believed. |
I got this hard rockin' Beatles tribute already pre-ordered:

Everyone involved with this should be tortured, then shot. Even Steve Ferrone and Tony Levin.
|
Holy shit! There's some acceptance, tolerance and open-mindedness for you!
|
I hope it has a lot of raphiphop gangsta sample!
|
i will def give this a listen...why not...just to see how it sounds
