Queen+ Paul Rodgers begin work on new album in October
According to Brian May (writing in his soapbox for www.brianmay.com,) Queen+ Paul Rodgers will head into the studio to begin working on a new album.
It'll be pretty interesting to see what they can come up with regarding new material. It's one thing to get along for a tour and just playing live, another to write/record/produce brand new songs and get *your* way regarding how it'll end up.
I'm also curious if they'll follow the traditional Queen songwriting credit route, regardless of who wrote what as individuals, everything was credited to the group for (primarily) royalty purposes.
Paul wrote a new song, "Take Love," which they played on their US tour earlier this year so I would assume that would end up on the album. I'd like to see a new version of "Reaching Out" as well. A small bit of it was played as the opener for their tour and it was originally recorded some years back by Paul and Brian. I'd like to see what Roger could contribute to it. Also maybe we'll see a studio version of "Say It's Not True."
I know some folks will continue their diatribe about using the "Queen" name again (I can see some DVDTalkers lining up as I type this) and never even bother listening to the new record when it comes out (next year I'd gather, probably followed by another tour.) Oh well, their loss. I'm definitely looking forward to some new songs.
(PS The likely personal insults are both predictable and boring. Just saying......)

Apparently, Roger Taylor released (or is releasing, I forget) a new single under the guise of "Felix and Arty." Felix being his son's name and "Arty" a way of saying "RT" or short for Roger Taylor. Ahem.
Anyway they have a myspace profile where you can hear the song for free. Here's the link:

It's a bit Bob Marley-ish but it's kinda catchy.

Well then, in case you hadn't heard, there's a whole bunch of Freddie merchandise coming out next month in the UK. A best of CD (either a single CD or limited 2 CD set with rarities and remixes as a bonus,) new documentary and video collection DVDs. There's a new book too but I forget what it contains. His 60th birthday is being celebrated in September with all this stuff.
Plenty of Freddie for you and that nasty man Paul Rodgers cannot be found anywhere near 'em.

Sorry but Brian May and Roger Taylor do not make up Queen. 50% of the band are missing and it is an important portion of that band. They are missing not only their lead singer/songwriter, they are also missing their Bass Player and another songwriting contributor.
Aprroximate #s: Queen (1st album) thru A Kind of Magic
Note - I did not include the Flash soundtrack (as it is more mishmash than songs), and The Miracle & Innuendo had all songs written by Queen instead of individually. I did not include Made In Heaven as it is a compliation of Freddy solo songs with Queen backing them and the new stuff was atributed only to Queen altogether.
Mercury - 43 songs
May - 39 songs
Taylor - 17 songs
Deacon - 15 songs.
That is an almost perfect 50% split when Mercury and Deacon are taken out of the band.
I just wish they would call the band May, Taylor and Rodgers than Queen and Rodgers. They aren't Queen period.

What that tells me is that they weren't fans of the band but rather fans of Mercury.

No shit. But once again you miss my point. Let me guess, you love George Lucas too?
and yes I love George Lucas. Especially his fuzzy lightsaber.
