I kinda got it working except now every few seconds it pops up letting me know how many I can ship. How can I set it to where it only pops if there is a new "ship" notification.

Use the Ship Threshold setting. If you can ship five now and want to know when there is a sixth, then set the ship threshold to 5.

I think it is that they just get confirmed so quick that you only have time for one.

I think it is both. Yesterday, I went from 0 to 5 being able to be shipped. I shipped the first, and naturally the other four were gone. But a short while later, I given the option to ship the other four again and was able to get one. Then again with a third one of the five a short while after that.

BTW, I think Mary is a rip-n-shipper, and that is why she is able to receive so many.

Except I actually got in zero, but you are right that this happens a lot.

My last comment to Jeremy, but I really want to thank you again. I just shipped off two discs after a full week of nothing. I would have missed these CDs w/out the noise I just heard.

saoirse 08-10-06 05:32 PM

Thanks to the Genius Jeremy

I just wanted to thank you here also. Jeremy spent a lot of time helping me figure this out. With various emails going back and forth, he was able to help my ignant ass out. It's nice to know there are still some selfless people around. Thanks again Jeremy.

Jeremy517 08-10-06 05:40 PM

The problem, in case anyone else runs into it, is that there is no a1 value in your cookie when you choose to have LaLa not remember you. Also, if you choose to have LaLa not remember you, when you can ship a CD, your browser won't be able to go right to the Have List, because LaLa will require you to log on.

cdollaz 08-10-06 06:27 PM

Agreed. Thanks for the time and letting us in on this. Good stuff.

Michael Corvin 08-10-06 06:28 PM

My problem was I was going to the "cookies" option in the browser which shows you values for t & a1, but apparently they were different values than what is held in the actual cookie.txt file. Once I figured that out I was good as gold.

I have 10 sitting in the mailbox ready to go out tomorrow. Two different people are getting two each from me. Pretty cool.

Jocko6577 08-10-06 09:56 PM

Another thank you to Jeremy. I got it up and running, but unfortunately I can't ship any more until I get validations of the 5 (yep, new member and used up all 5 in the first three days) that have gone out in the mail. Is this site cool or what?

A-aron 08-11-06 04:55 AM

on a related note - I finally got rid of my Snoop Dogg - Doggfather .. it was the very first CD I entered. :)

Jeremy517 08-11-06 11:29 AM

Hmm the Mary Mystery has taken a turn for the strange. There is a thread on the LaLa forums that says this:

<quote>Very Interesting Receive Address
SONY BMG.

Yes, I agreed to ship a CD, and activated the envelop. When the address came up it was ... (I've left the name, floor, and suite address off, denoted by ****)

****
SONY BMG
550 MADISON AVE FL **** STE ****
NEW YORK, NY 10022-3211

The member is undisclosed. What do you guys think of this??

Personally, I think the CD is a dog. I mean it is not a mangy mutt but it is a Dog. I know one man's dog is another man's blah, blah, blah... but it is not something I would expect anyone to want or even know about.

Of course I will send the disc with the liners and the tray but I just thought this was very interesting.
I had tried looking up Mary's address to see if maybe it was a business. I thought perhaps it was a radio station. Turns out that it is Sony BMG. Wow.

Chucky 08-11-06 11:44 AM

That is interesting. Hmmmmm...
Then again, if she's taking your dogs, who cares, right?
She might just work there...
I certainly hope BMG is not buying CDs off of LaLa and then re-selling them to their customers!

With how cheap it is to manufacture CDs, they'd be losing money by doing this.

Chucky 08-11-06 12:00 PM

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense.

I dunno, it may be easier to track down a bunch of shit this way than doing a whole production run of say, Vanilla Ice.

cdollaz 08-11-06 01:30 PM

The Lalawatch tool has just allowed me to get rid of REM - Monster which I'm sure a lot of people have on their "have" list.

I actually love Monster and am only getting rid of it because I upgraded to the cd/DVD-A combo.

tonyc3742 08-11-06 02:03 PM

I know, I'm late to the party, but I'm listening to CD-based music more now that I have an ipod and got rid of my XM radio.
I've signed up [dtcarson], but won't be able to add titles till tonight.
Questions:
* Can you trade music club-sourced disks, that have "Made under license" instead of a UPC code?
* It actually costs 1.75/disk, not 1.00, after s/h, right?
I guess I'll have to play with it after adding some disks.

It looks like the little plugin/visualization thing they offer works like the two alerts mentioned above: "Another way to be notified without being logged into the browser interface, is to use the la la music plug-in. The PC version of the plug-in (WMP, iTunes, Winamp) has an alert feature that pops up in your task bar when you have the opportunity to ship a CD. The plug-in also features the same Have / Want list bar as part of the plug-in display, which is updated via the plug-in as long as you have it running. This feature is only available for the PC versions of the plug-in."

Anyway, I'm sure I've got some weird stuff to list, though nothing really 'classic'; maybe i'll be sending you a disk soon!

edit: cdollaz, I see you! I just did a search and your avatar came up, at least if you have the same name as you do here.

Chucky 08-11-06 02:26 PM

dtcarson,
Music club CDs are fine, at least at this time, as they are identical to the "real" CDs.
$1.75 for each disc you receive, yes.
The LaLa plugin does have the notification feature, yes. But some people have reported problems with it (look on the LaLa forums) and others only want the notification, not all the other features the LaLa plugin entails. For those people, there are the two "unofficial" programs mentioned earlier in the thread.
For the record, having tried both, I like Jeremy's better. It is a little more difficult to set up, but as Jeremy as already shown previously in the thread, he will help you out if you get stuck.

If you want to only receive CDs with artwork, be sure to change the artwork option in your account settings before you add any CDs to your want list.

tonyc3742 08-11-06 07:04 PM

got it.

i've got the artwork for99% of my cd's, but some are warped due to a water mishap :(

Okay, got some disks listed as Have, and a couple as Want...now I just wait till someone wants on of my Haves, or Has one of my Wants?

Pretty much. The more there are in either category, the more likely something will happen.

Cosmic Bus 08-11-06 10:55 PM

I got a t-shirt in the mail today, and oddly enough it was the second one I'd qualified for. The first tee seems to have been lost in the mail, which is actually fine, because a.) I don't care much for the 'Monday' design, and b.) I accidentally ordered a medium the first time around. My small 'Tuesday' design is quite nice and fits just right. :)

Arpeggi 08-12-06 05:21 PM

Some douche sent me a promo copy. Damn!

Tarantino 08-12-06 07:57 PM

Got Jeremy's program working for me...good stuff.

So far, I'm loving lala.

Anyone write blubs on the envelope when they send something out? I do...I've gotten a few back with blurbs as well, some just about the CD, some random words, and even one with a picture drawn!

= J

Arpeggi 08-12-06 08:13 PM

I usually just trash some crappy band like Dream Theater or Opeth on my blurbs. "This is so much better than that [insert crap band] shit."

And write down my favorite songs off the album.

Dan1boy 08-12-06 08:20 PM

Finally got my LaLa shirt today...what's wrong with the "Monday" design?

What does the "Tuesday" design look like?!

Michael Corvin 08-12-06 08:36 PM

Actually I left a message on all 10 I just sent out. Left a blurb about seeing one of the bands live if they ever get a chance. Sent out a couple Billy Joel's and left blurbs about wanting him to come out of retirement.

Big Dave 08-12-06 08:41 PM

Was the CD actually marked as promo or was it just a hole in the UPC which does actually mean it was a promo. Either way it really does not bother me if I am keeping the CD.

Tarantino 08-12-06 10:54 PM

I write funny blurbs on mine...

From the Kid Rock "Devil Without A Cause" CD I just sent out...

"Back in my wrestling days, I used 'Bawitdaba' as my entrance theme. Now you can too, whether it be for wrestling or just getting out of the shower!"

From the Dave Matthews Band "Under The Table & Dreaming" CD...

"I got this CD for answering a trivia question at the mall and only listened to it once. After debating between throwing it at a moving cop car, using it as a decorative coaster, and sending it to you, well..."

I haven't done anything myself, but I did recent get one with "DO NOT SHAKE! Throbbing Gristle inside!" written on the envelope. Made me chuckle. :)

atlantamoi 08-13-06 07:37 AM

I just write, "Grits included."

I don't mind promo copies if I plan on keeping them (especially if rare).

Arpeggi 08-13-06 08:54 AM

Ok, lala sent me another copy of the cd. Anyone here wants my promo? The cd is Teenage Fanclub's Thirteen. I'll just put it in a Lala envelope and send it to you.

tonyc3742 08-13-06 06:11 PM

That was cool...I just added about 6 more disks fifteen minutes ago; just now got a request to ship. Acknowledged [have to wait for envelopes though], added credit card data, and now got a 'You're recieving xxx' email. Now to think of more CDs I want.....I'll admit, I've not been paying attention to the music scene for about the past four years.

I will send the liner notes/cover art--but what about the tray liner/back cover? Does LaLa not care about that? I agree that the liner notes/cover art is more important, but I like to have things 'complete'--and, of course, once I no longer have a disk, the tray liner is pretty worthless to me.

Big Dave 08-13-06 07:13 PM

Right now, there is no requirement to send the back art, but like you said, if you have, there is no reason not to send it with the disc.

Arpeggi 08-13-06 07:47 PM

I have a promo copy of Teenage Fanclub's Thirteen with cover booklet but no back art. Anyone wants it? Lala is sending me another copy so I don't need this promo one.

Big Dave 08-14-06 09:48 AM

I just wanted to give Jeremy a big thanks for the program. It has really gotten me interested in LaLa once again. Right now I have 9 discs coming to me and 9 discs shipping out to others (these include some discs I never thought somebody would want). I have built up a +10 trade differential which should help me receive discs as soon as they are available. Also, I am now only 20 discs away from 100 traded.

Arpeggi 08-16-06 09:40 PM

I was able to finally ship Norah Jones's first album using Jeremy's program! Thanks!

cdollaz 08-17-06 02:21 PM

I got rid of Lenny Kravitz and Wallflowers cds today. Didn't see that one coming.

Dr. Henry Jones, Jr. 08-18-06 09:11 AM

Just signed up for this last night, and have a few questions..

-When listing CDs that are in cardboard cases instead of jewel cases.. do I just ship these as is and put the whole thing in the envelope? You can't take the artwork off of it unless you ship the CD solo (which I don't want to do).

-I have a bunch of CDs from back when I did some DJing, and they are marked with my initials on the disks themselves. Are these acceptible to list on the site?
