Here are some things I don't like about the list: First, I know it's heresy, but Sgt. Pepper isn't even the best Beatles album, let alone the best album. I'd put Revolver as #1 for the Beatles, and it's a good contender for #1 overall. Combat Rock is as good as (and arguably better than) London Calling. For it to be left of the list entirely is a travesty. Repercussion by the dBs is a great album, but few people have ever heard it, so I'll forgive RS for leaving it off the list. L.A. Woman is a mediocre album, and probably the weakest in the entire Doors Catalog. No way it belongs on this list. Waiting for the Sun should take its place. Greatest Hits albums do not belong on a "best albums" list. Don't get me wrong -- I love GH packages and have plenty of them, but they are a different animal entirely from a great album. |
Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation is rated waaaay too low. 329?? I know it's all subjective, but there is no way a greatest hits collection (Madonna's Immaculate Collection - even if some of the songs are remastered) should be 50 spots higher than this influential masterpiece.
With that said, I am impressed with a lot of the inclusions and confused with others (RHCP's Californication). |

156. Paul's Boutique, Beastie Boys
:bmonkey: That's what I think of a list that would rate Paul's Boutique at 156. |

BTW, I missed one. I also sold: 162. OK Computer, Radiohead |

I was limited as for a lot of "classic rock" groups I just have box sets or greatest hits collections rather than albums (i.e. Stones, Beatles, Hendrix etc.). |
I'm sure there are more important things to discuss, but I found it odd that Rolling Stone named "Murmur" as record of the year for 1983 over "Thriller" and "Thriller" made #20 on the list and "Murmur" was #197.
Even if you assume they simply re-evaluated things over time, that doesn't seem right to have a 177 spot gap between the record they once said was better than the other. PS-I feel like "In My Tribe" and "Little Earthquakes" deserved to be somewhere on that list. #499 and #500...whatever. Just anywhere on the list. |
Not that anyone really cares, but here's what I have out of the top 100:
