Oasis "Stop the Clocks" hits album this year
“STOP THE CLOCKS” The definitive collection as chosen by the band ! 25 July 2006 Oasis have been at the helm of the worlds music scene for over ten years and, on November 20th 2006 the first ever Oasis retrospective will draw together the years of multi platinum albums, Number One singles and, unique to Oasis, instantly familiar B sides into one 18 track double album entitled Stop the Clocks. Furthermore, this collection has been chosen by the band themselves - the songs they believe encapsulate their remarkable career to date. Oasis are widely regarded as the defining rock n roll band of the last decade, bestriding the music world since the release of debut single, Supersonic in 1994 to the current day whilst claiming a host of records for their own. Second album, What's The Story, (Morning Glory), from which several of the tracks here are drawn, remains the highest ever certified album at 14 x platinum whilst their combined album sales total close to, a remarkable 40 million sales worldwide. Unlike most albums of this nature, Oasis have sat down and undertaken the almost impossible job of picking what they consider to be their finest moments ever. So Stop The Clocks is imbued with the sort of wilfulness that has helped make Oasis the favourite band of millions of people worldwide and its running order will no doubt provoke equal parts adulation and bar discussions from the millions of Oasis fans worldwide. Could it ever be any other way? Stop The Clocks includes the definitive greatest B side ever, Acquiesce, evoking memories of the White Room performance that so many regard as Oasis greatest music television moment. Also present is Half The World Away, another B side that became instantly recognisable to all in the UK for its use as the theme music of TVs The Royle Family. Then come the singles, a stream of contemporary classics starting with Supersonic and moving on to anthems such as Wonderwall, as well as more recent moments such as The Importance of Being Idle. These songs explain in an instant why Oasis remain cover stars worldwide as well as being continuously name checked by contemporary bands as their greatest influence. Having spent 10 months on the road in support of the 2 million selling Don't Believe The Truth, Stop the Clocks is released as Oasis take a well earned sabbatical prior to starting work on new material, destined for similar levels of success in the future. As such, this is not a full stop, but merely a time out; a dream set list, and a chance for the world to review the immense contribution that Oasis have made and continue to make to rock n roll. Stop The Clocks - the definitive collection, chosen by the band. |
I already have all of their albums, so if there is nothing new, I am not buying. However, this would be a great buy if you do not have any Oasis CDs.
|
I'll probably pick it up just because I'm a huge fan, but it would be great if the song "Stop the Clocks" was actually on there too. I heard a lot about it several years ago, but I don't know if it actually exists. Some sources claimed it was Noel Gallagher's finest achievement, but as far as I know, a recording never actually surfaced anywhere. I'm curious, but I won't hold my breath. I'm assuming the above source originated in Europe but hopefully this will get released in the U.S. as well.

I look forward to a track listing. Thanks for the heads-up! |

Still a lot of good b-side tunes that they could have included, such as:
The Fame Heroes (Noel on vocals) (I Got) The Fever My Sister Lover Round Are Way |

The official tracklisting hasn't been announced yet - the official website is holding a contest to guess the tracklist, which ends September 10th. So the official tracklisting won't be out until probably mid September.

I forgot all about this band!

lame tracklist, nothing from be here now, and no Stop the Clocks!!!
I guess from what I've heard it gets them out of the Sony Contract. |
From the tracklist, it's an easy decision for me to ignore when it comes out.

Still, that plus the lack of any new songs means this Oasis fan will most likely pass. |
Yeah, disappointing that there's nothing new. I sort of had my hopes up that there would be at least one or two new tracks. Oh well. I suppose it's not a bad collection for those that don't already own much oasis in general. Maybe if it's like $9.99 at Best Buy or something I'll pick it up for the artwork.

After much speculation Oasis announce the final track listing for their definitive collection Stop The Clocks. Unlike most albums of this nature, Oasis have sat down and undertaken the almost impossible job of picking what they consider to be their finest moments ever. So Stop The Clock is imbued with the sort of wilfulness that has helped make Oasis the favourite band of millions of people worldwide and its running order will no doubt provoke equal parts adulation and bar discussions from the millions of Oasis fans worldwide. So here it is. The tracks as chosen by the band themselves - the songs they believe encapsulate their remarkable career to date. Rock n Roll Star Some Might Say Talk Tonight Lyla The Importance of Being Idle Wonderwall Slide Away Cigarettes & Alcohol The Masterplan Live Forever Acquiesce Supersonic Half The World Away Go Let It Out Songbird Morning Glory Champagne Supernova Don't Look Back In Anger |
The track listing is not that bad, but it should have Don't Go Away and Stand by Me. Nevertheless, this is a pointless release if you already own all of their CDs.
How hard is it to include unreleased or new songs and a bonus DVD with videos or a concert? |
Amazon.co.uk
lists the tracklisting as: Disc: 1 1. Rock n Roll Star 2. Some Might Say 3. Talk Tonight 4. Lyla 5. The Importance of Being Idle 6. Wonderwall 7. Slide Away 8. Cigarettes & Alcohol 9. The Masterplan Disc: 2 1. Live Forever 2. Acquiesce 3. Supersonic 4. Half The World Away 5. Go Let It Out 6. Songbird 7. Morning Glory 8. Champagne Supernova 9. Don’t Look Back In Anger Disc: 3 (DVD) 1. 40 minute Noel and Liam Electronic Press Kit 2. Champagne Supernova - live at Knebworth 3. Fade Away - live at Knebworth 4. Lord Don't Slow Me Down film trailer 5. Gallery section here's the link to Amazon (US) which now does denote the bonus DVD: Stop the Clocks (with DVD) [SPECIAL EDITION] |
We just got a promo of "Stop the Clocks" in at work today. The liner notes looked pretty cool and there were even some lyrics to the unreleased track of the same name. I was hoping for a hidden bonus track at the end or something, but no such luck. Maybe it'll be on their next album.
