Are there any Doors cover songs out there?

I mean other bands doing Doors songs? I was just curious I don't think I've ever heard any band do any Doors songs.

Ginwen 07-26-06 12:37 AM

X - Soul Kitchen (with Ray Manzerek on the organ part). I love this version--really fast and the organ part is pretty manic.

Jose Feliciano did a pretty popular version of Light My Fire. And there are lots of others--I know I've heard someone sing Five to One. Billy Idol had a hit with LA Woman.

Edit: There's a list here, it's from 1999, so I'm sure there are many more now: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip...409/covers.htm

Marilyn Manson covered 5 to 1. It came out on a 2 song bonus disc with John Lennon's working class hero. You could only get it at Tower Records with the purchase of his new cd at the time, but I'm sure it's elsewhere now.

I remember a CD called "Stoned Immaculate" with a bunch of big name bands covering Doors songs. The track list (off Amazon):

1. Break On Through - Stone Temple Pilots
2. Riders On The Storm - Creed
3. Light My Fire - Train
4. Peace Frog - Smash Mouth
5. L.A. Woman - Days Of The New
6. Love Me Two Times - Aerosmith
7. Under Waterfall - The Doors
8. Wild Child - The Cult
9. Roadhouse Rap - Jim Morrison
10. Roadhouse Blues - John Lee Hooker/Jim Morrison
11. Is Everybody In? - William S. Burroughs
12. Hello I Love You - Oleander
13. Touch Me - Ian Astbury
14. Children Of Night - Perry Farrell/Exene
15. Love Her Madly - Bo Diddley
16. The Cosmic Movie - The Doors
17. The End - Days Of The New

Twiztid covered, "People Are Strange," on their Freekshow album.

Lone Wolf 07-26-06 08:40 AM

The Marilyn Manson cover of 5 to 1 was an outtake of the Stoned Immaculate album I believe.

Here is a good site for covers.

I hear Crystal Shit does a great Doors show at the Sand Bar...

and they let 16 year olds drink.

tonyc3742 07-26-06 09:09 AM

How are you getting there?

Echo and the Bunnymen did People are Strange, I think [yes, I'm dating myself].

Michael Corvin 07-26-06 09:16 AM

Didn't Eddie Vedder front the Doors for a song or two? Not quite a cover, but not exactly the Doors either. Falls somewhere inbetween.

That CD looks pretty interesting Adkin. Not surprised to see two Days of the New tracks since Travis Meeks(DotN) thinks he is Jim Morrison. Still love their music though.

The Bus 07-26-06 09:27 AM

Eddie Vedder and some of the mmembers of the Doors did a live show at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame(?) in the 90s. It's a pretty popular bootleg as I've seen it at a lot of places (on- and offline).

Duran Duran did "Crystal Ship" on their Thank You album. I don't remember being impressed by it.

Michael Corvin 07-26-06 09:52 AM

A whole show? That sounds like a kick ass boot to find.

And now, Stoned Immaculate is on its way to me via lala. My last post: 10:15, shipping confirmed: 10:36. That's a new record for me.

creekdipper 07-26-06 10:23 AM

Well, believe it or not, New Age piano king George Winston released an entire album of Doors instrumentals just a few years ago...but I doubt that's what you're looking for (actually, some of his versions are quite interesting, while others are kitschy or just plain bad...mainly because they stick too close to the original...which is a similar knock against the tribute album mentioned in a previous post).

Mondo Kane 07-26-06 12:21 PM

Billy Idol-LA Woman

Cusm 07-26-06 02:05 PM

The Cure did "Hello I Love You" on the Rubaiyat: Elektra's 40th Anniversary cd, acually 2 versions - 1 punk. link.

JeffDoeXXX 07-26-06 03:57 PM

Doors

Joan Jett & Aerosmith both did LOVE ME TWO TIMES
Missing Persons did HELLO I LOVE YOU

saoirse 07-26-06 04:41 PM

Not a total cover, but a few lyrics.

Dead Milkmen - If You Love Somebody, Set Them On Fire

Know that it would be untrue
Know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
I didn't set your house on fire

But it's just the way I am
Have to take it for a fact
Life can really burn you up
When you're a pyromaniac
So...

If you love somebody
Better set them on fire

I went to your house last night
Dad called me the human torch
Got a little pissed at him
So I burned down your front porch

Now I feel a little better
About throwin' gas on your dad
But you know it's hard to quit
And besides he started it

I just bought a brand new lighter
And I just can't wait to use it
With a can a' kerosene it's lots a' fun
You can't refuse it

Oily rags are special things
You know to me they're diamond rings
Maybe we can have some fun
Maybe we can burn someone
So...

If you love somebody
Better set them on fire

Know that it would be untrue
Know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
I didn't set your dad on fire

If you love somebody
Better set them on fire

If you love somebody
Why not set them on fire?

If you love somebody
Better set them on fire

If you love somebody
Why not set them on fire?

And a Snipet from Bitchin Camero

...My favorite cover band, Crystal Shit.
- Wow.
- Yeah, they do a Doors show, you'd be really impressed, in fact, it goes a
little like this:

Love me two times baby
Love me twice today
Love me two times girl
Cause I got AIDS
Love me two times baby,
once for tomorrow,
once cause I got AIDS

- Uh...
- Pretty good Jim Morrison impersonation there. I hope those guys have a
good sense of humor and don't take us into court...

Trout 07-26-06 05:27 PM

Didn't INXS do a cover of "People are Strange"? I think it was in the movie Lost Boys.

That was Echo & the Bunnymen.

fliggil 07-26-06 09:15 PM

Dave Matthews Band did Riders on the Storm at a live show back in 1992, not an amazing performance but worth a download if you can track it down.

Nabalab 07-26-06 10:09 PM

The Escape Club did a cover of "Twentieth Century Fox". It is on the Wonder Years soundtrack.

Jack Straw 07-26-06 10:37 PM

Peace Frog/Blue Sunday - Widespread Panic

Buford T Pusser 07-26-06 11:01 PM

As mentioned there was the tribute cd. But I heard it sucked. Hard.

Did someone mention that Adam Ant covered "Hello, I Love You"?

Buford T Pusser 07-26-06 11:02 PM

I remember the first time I saw the Addams Family as a kid and I believe it was a TV movie after the show was long gone.

Anyway, "Light My Fire" was the theme song and they played it a bunch.

At that point I'd never heard of the Doors and when I heard them play it I thought "they did the Addams Family song".

the hatter 07-27-06 01:38 AM

massive attack did a horrible cover of light my fire

mkdevo 07-27-06 05:59 AM

The Breakfast played Morrison Hotel in its entirety at a show last summer. Download here:
