Hot damn!! Tom Waits to tour. Dates announced next week.

According to the Eyeball Kid website, dates for an August Waits tour in Canada/USA will be announced next week. I hope they come somewhere within a days drive of me.

dvduser6 06-29-06 01:21 PM

Awesome. I really regretted missing his last run through LA. I won't miss this one.

glasschicken 06-29-06 02:17 PM

Oh, I really hope I can go to one!

auto 06-29-06 04:37 PM

no way! thats great! I was just thinking about this today actually. Weird. WHere does it say it on the website?

conscience 06-30-06 02:12 AM

Wow! I got into him about five years ago (when I was 17) and have never looked back. Unfortunately, I have never been anywhere near his more recent venues.

Hope that changes this time around.

Google the Eyeball Kid website. It's on the front page. Doesn't say much, just that there is an announcement next week.

Thats bout the same age I was when I got into him. I bought Small Change on a whim and its still one of my favorite albums ever.

serenitygirl 06-30-06 01:30 PM

My friend's extremely into Tom Waits. Every time I went to his house that'd be all he listened to. One of the things I like about Tom though was his very low, scraggly voice. It'd always crack me up. What's your favorite song by him?

Awesome news if it's true.

Thank you SO much for posting this, you made my day! Tom Waits is my hero, I really hope he comes to Nevada, Utah or Southern California, it'd break my heart if he toured and I couldn't see him.

auto 07-01-06 06:57 PM

Although it's not his best, IMO, "Innocent When You Dream" always gets to me.

xmiyux 07-03-06 09:09 PM

Hot damn is right. He is easily in my top 3 favorite artists of all time.

Personally i swear by his songs: Postcard from a hooke rin minneapolis
Come on up to the house
Heart of Saturday night

As well as the song on Black Rider about the devil giving bullets... i think it is called Just the Right Bullet.

Man i hope he comes near me...

from pitchforkmedia:

Tom Waits will leave his lair for a rare tour this August, hitting Southern and Midwestern cities he hasn't played in decades (if at all).

"We need to go to Tennessee to pick up some fireworks, and someone owes me money in Kentucky," Waits said in a press release.

Yeah, Tom Waits is pretty much the coolest man alive.

Come on up to the house:

08-01 Atlanta, GA - Tabernacle
08-02 Asheville, NC - Thomas Wolfe Auditorium
08-04 Memphis, TN - Orpheum Theatre
08-05 Nashville, TN - Ryman Auditorium
08-07 Louisville, KY - Palace Theatre
08-09 Chicago, IL - Auditorium Theatre
08-11 Detroit, MI - Opera House
08-13 Akron, OH - Akron Civic

A Waits rarities box set, entitled Orphans, is rumored to be in the works for Anti-, but nothing has been confirmed.

I'm so happy he is playing Michigan. Any idea when these go on sale? Ticketmaster has nothing scheduled.

cdollaz 07-05-06 12:10 PM

Damn. Maybe Memphis.

xmiyux 07-05-06 12:39 PM

Now i can't wait to hear pricing and whether i have to deal with the horror that is Ticketmaster. I'll most likely catch the last show in Akron. I'm very interested in that rumored box set though.

MrTerrific 07-05-06 02:08 PM

08-01 Atlanta, GA - Tabernacle

I know where I will be on August 1st!!! This is definitely Top 5 on the Most Exciting News I've Ever Heard list.

dvduser6 07-05-06 02:57 PM

Damn! No other dates are being scheduled?

xmiyux 07-05-06 03:02 PM

Any idea how much tickets are going to run? I hope he isn't going to be one of those 200$ tickets like Tom Petty was when last i looked him up. :(

Dusty Bottoms 07-05-06 05:17 PM

There is information for a couple of the shows on Ticketmaster. Tickets for Atlanta are $60 and $65 plus TM charges. Tickets for Detroit are $72 plus TM charges. Tickets will be sold by internet and phone only and will not be mailed. You must pick your ticket up as you enter the venue. Onsale date for Atlanta is 7/8. Onsale for Detroit is 7/14.

I'm hoping to get in for Nashville. The Ryman is a great venue, and it's close to home. The Palace in Louisville is also very nice, and less than two hours from home as well.
