I was listening to some of the "remixed" songs on Tori's MySpace page and I can't tell a DAMN bit of difference.
My "A Piano" is sitting in the apartment office, freshly delivered from B&N today. I'll have to grab it tomorrow and dig in over the weekend.
Let's hear some first impressions, guys.
Full Disclosure: Tori fan since 1991. If it was commercially released, I have it. Name it. I have it. So, I am more interested in the 'remixes' and unreleased songs than B-Sides.
A real mastered release of Y Kant would be awesome. Something tells me one day Tori will let them release that. Hell, I wish she'd re-record it with the same sound, just today, so it could be a Sony release and not Atlantic.

First impressions? It's still a waste. I own everything Tori as well and this could have been cut down to 1 disc...if even that. Just a huge waste of money.
The box is the only thing interesting about it...and even that is pretty cheaply made. I can see the cardboard bottom already cracking.
It's even more pointless than Librarian, if that's imaginable.

Well I got mine and as a Tori Completest I'm glad I have it. I wish the version with the DVD weren't at such a high premium.
I liked the DVD. It had good info on it, but was just probably no more than a DVD sent to buyers to talk them into stocking a Tori Amos box set.
I liked about half of this box set. The songs I didn't have. The ones that I do already have, eh.
I suppose it's great that the B Side cd is at least remastered. The only other place for some of these are 15 year old CD's, and in the box set they sound a little better.
The "Original Earthquakes" is interesting. Zero Point and Take Me With You are interesting, and I really like the Iieee and Cruel remixes. Or maybe they are 'downmixes". They seem stripped down to me.
All in all, it's fun. No one box set would please all fans, except for the "Tori Amos: Everything She's Ever Done Edition".
I'm waiting for the Y Kant Tori Read reissue. That has to come one day. Tori and Atlantic has to know it would sell to us Toriphiles.

Let's face it, no box set is never going to satisfy EVERY fan. If the singles/hits were left out, there would be bitching about that. If the rare stuff is left out, there would be bitching about that, too.
Somewhere, there has to be a middle ground.
I too, wish, that Y KANT TORI READ would have been part of this release, but what we have is actually pretty good. I am grateful for the un-released, and remastered stuff.

I don't think this boxed set was anywhere NEAR middle-ground. 1 disc (if that) of rarities out of 5 is not balanced. This is just recycled.
Lord knows Tori has unreleased stuff just sitting there. She recorded every single Plugged tour. How about releasing some of that??

Ah, now we are talking. It's a slightly different animal, studio stuff versus live concerts, but I would LOVE some concerts.
I 'think' the Official Bootleg" series was a success, I have all of mine, why don't they do that for all her past shows? Why doesn't ANY artist do that? Sell it thru a web site, thru the fan club, as a digital download. Anything!
If they have it recorded, I want it mastered and available. I'm hoping for a seperate set of all her covers from this last tour. She damn near did two different covers a night for 40-50 shows? Maybe more. That would be a great product, too.
Hopefully the lack of a "live" section on this Box Set means that a Live Box Set maybe swirling around in someones head as well.

Live stuff obviously doesn't interest me as much as studio demos and whatknot. Well, unless it's Plugged/Venus stuff because those were by far her best tours. After she got rid of Steve, touring with a band became pointless. She might as well always be solo.
Maybe there's not a ton of other unreleased studio material? Who knows...
