Thank you for posting the correct answer.

Every time I hear that one, I get choked up a little.

At the moment, it's "Ballad in Plain D," from Another Side of Bob Dylan, followed by the excellent live version of "Spanish Harlem Incident" from the Bootleg Series, Vol 4.

By a country mile, it's "Series of Dreams"...

Nick Danger 05-27-06 03:48 PM

The first choice that popped into my head was Tangled Up In Blue, so I'm going to go with that. If I think about it, I'll never have a definitive answer.

It's an unqualified masterpiece, unlike anything else he has done, and he unfathomably left it off the mediocre (maybe that's the explanation) Oh Mercy album. Nothing else on the album even comes close; at all.
I especially like the almost transcendent moment when the throbbing bass from the end of "When the Night Comes Falling..." bleeds into the beginning of "Series of Dreams" as the two songs complete the Bootleg 1-3 collection. Both songs are quite lengthy, and their quasi-marriage is mesmeric.

Ky-Fi 05-28-06 03:05 PM

I know it's not that well regarded, but I love the whole "Oh Mercy" album, and "Man in the Long Black Coat" just really does it for me. I just love the music, the lyrics and the haunting, reverb-drenched production.

Where Are You Tonight? (Journey Through Dark Heat)

As far as I know it is very well regarded, so you're in the majority.

DVD Josh 05-28-06 05:53 PM

No one has voted for mine :( - Subterranean Homesick Blues

TheAllPurposeNothing 05-28-06 10:58 PM

For me, its "Ballad in Plain D" by a mile.

NORML54601 05-29-06 03:24 AM

I'll Be Your Baby Tonight
Positively 4th Street
Tryin' to get to Heaven

My favorite Album of his isThe Dylan's Root

I have to add Tweeter & the Monkey Man from the Traveling Wilburys too since Dylan sings it.

dcswirl 05-29-06 02:20 PM

It Takes A Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry and Just Like Tom Thumbs Blues, as if I can really pick.

kms_md 05-29-06 06:19 PM

my personal favorite is lily, rosemary, and the jack of hearts.

dcswirl 06-02-06 05:25 PM

Desolation Row also.

NoirFan 06-06-06 06:16 PM

Today it's "To Ramona". I also agree that the live version of "Hattie" from the bootleg series kicks ass.

There are so many to chose from, and it's hard to chose one, but if someone says "Bob Dylan", the first thing that pops into my head is Like a Rolling Stone.

Hollowgen 07-02-06 12:33 AM

tangled up in blue / the hurricane ... and basically any song from both albums that those songs came from.
