Today's purchases (09 May 2006)

i was frightened by the number of new releases i bought today. anybody else?

i bought:
RHCP - Stadium Arcadium
Grandaddy - Just Like the Fambly Cat
Neil Young - Living with War
Paul Simon - Surprise
Snow Patrol - Eyes Open

admittedly, that's not a lot for me as a cumulative purchase, but is a lot for "day of release" purchases.

i'm only just digging into Stadium Arcadium, as i only just got home allowing me to download from iTunes - of course, "just got home" is different for me (a la time zones, since i'm in Europe) and it's almost 10:30p.m. here.

You'll really like the Snow Patrol album, it's fantastic. Even better than Final Straw, which is tough to do. I really like the maturation of the singer's timbre.

It was a damn good day for new releases. At least 3 or 4 really great albums.

Two CDs? Well, that seems reasonable.

Just bought the Snow Patrol disc (w/ the exclusive Target bonus DVD). I'm a big fan of Final Straw; hope the new album is just as great.

I'll be getting the Matthew Sweet/Susannah Hoffs disc at some point, I'm sure.

I haven't heard the entire Matthew Sweet covers album, but their renditions of "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" and "Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" are fab -- although for my money, Nina Simone's version of the latter simply cannot be topped.

The Snow Patrol disc is pretty awful, IMO, and not unexpectedly so. Gary Lightbody's been headed, quite intentionally it seems, towards that heavily produced, mainstream pap for some time; I enjoyed the occasional quirkiness of the Reindeer Section, but he mostly lost me once he shifted to Snow Patrol.

Oops, I neglected to mention that I also picked up The Black Heart Procession's The Spell, which I'm quite enjoying!
