Instrumental dedicated to Buddy Holly and Richie Valens [answered]

Could anyone please tell me the name of the guitar instrumental dedicated to Buddy Holly and Richie Valens after tragic death. Its killin' me that I can't remember the name or artist.

If you had a more specific thread title, it would attract more people who are likely to be able to answer your question.

One of my favorites. I've loved it ever since I saw La Bamba. So sad and haunting. And I always had a hard time remembering the title and artist, too--until I eventually learned that it was on the Mermaids soundtrack, and bought it, just for that song.

Didn't know about it being dedicated to Holly and Valens, though. Did some brief research about it today and didn't see anything that mentioned them specifically--just that it was recorded and released in 1959. So, with that date, and as melancholy as it is, it's certainly plausible that it was a response to their deaths.

Anyone have any more info about it? I didn't find too much stuff at the couple of places I checked. . .

I didn't know that either. It's a good song, but one I've never been a big fan of.

I never knew the connection either. Although, I saw Setzer play this live a few years ago and it was great. It was the one song that was stuck in my head for a couple of days after.

My favorite song on it was "Yesterday"... I didn't read your post since your title explained it all.

How did you get to it being Sleepwalk from reading my post if you "Didn't know about it being dedicated to Holly and Valens, though."

Seems I heard it on the radio one night and the DJ made the claim.
Within the next couple of days, same station, same DJ asked "What was the guitar instrumental dedicated to Buddy Holly and Richie Valens after their tragic deaths and who recorded it?"
I call in and win four great seats for the Texxas Jam. ooops, I'm dating myself.

I assumed. It was a guitar instrumental, and it was used in La Bamba, so I put two and two together. I've just never heard anything about it being officially dedicated to those guys, that's all.

You callin' Mr. Salty out?

He did have a point if the title was vague.

I think I have this song by someone-now I need to find out.

edit to add: It's on my Porky's Revenge soundtrack I haven't heard in at least 25 years. Done by Jeff Beck.

Why would I call somebody out on a message board?

I was simply pointing out the fact that my post worked as it was.

But, I say again. Thank You, thank you all ... geez.

Sorry. I just put new batteries in and see it was a false alarm.
